I was very fortunate to have sourced a small quantity of brand new Vehicle-Dependent Expedition Guides. This is the updated, second edition version, printed in 2003. Both editions are out of print and are very expensive ($300+)on ebay, etc.
I have four copies to sell to ExPo members at $194 each plus S&H.

I would ask how you were able to source these but even if you could tell me, you'd probably have to kill me, right?
That's a screaming hot price for the Expedition Bible. :clapsmile

These things are worth their weight in gold, gentlemen! It's like a no-nonsense textbook on expedition travel; not the US...."Let's go 4-Wheelin' " stuff you find.....

I've got to defer to you guys with the smarts, but what's in it that makes it worth $300 on eBay? Even for $194, what makes it so valuable?
I'm honestly just wondering out loud, 'cause we all have books that we spend a lot on for one reason or another.
For example, over the years I've bought nice copies of books like an early 1980s 2nd edition of 'Engineering Electromagnetic Fields and Waves' by Carl Johnk (I actually had him for a couple of classes, while at the Univ of Illinois the man literally helped invent radar for the Navy in the 1940s). I've also spent plenty on an original 4th edition of the 'Radiotron Designer's Handbook' by F. Langford Smith (from about 1953) and 2nd edition of 'Fundamentals Of Vacuum Tubes' by Austin Eastman (from about 1940) and 'Principles of Electron Tubes' by Herbert Reich (from 1941). But I've spent barely more than $300 on all 4 of those combined.

Yay, mine is on order.
Now I just need a copy of "Explorer's Air Yacht: The Sikorsky S-38 Flying Boat".
And a S-38 to go along with it, of course.

The cost is due to them being out of print and high demand.

LOL! Dave, you kill me! Some fascinating reads up there I'm sure! :p
Although, to be fair, The complete works of Donald Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming Volumes 1-4 and all Fascicles could well exceed the $300 mark.

Yup, fascinating if you are a committed dorky engineer who builds tube gear. ;-) Actually despite that, I'm currently building one of those new fangled solid state amps (semiconductors, like digital cameras and auto trannys, I think are just a fad that'll pass soon enough). It's a Pass Labs derived A75, which in my configuration should yield more like 50~55W. May not sound like much, but that's pure, 100% Grade-A class A power and so it'll dissipate, oh, around 200W of heat. Should be able to heat my basement with it! It's fed by a Dynaco DAS-2X, so I haven't totally sold out into the 21st century.
Didn't read close enough to realize the book was out of print, that makes a bit more sense. Those books I listed have been out of print for about 50 or 60 years and so I understand waiting and watching eBay for them to come up. Took me most of a decade to get decent copies.

Thanks for all of the orders. The last "ExPo" priced unit has been sold and the price has been changed on the site to the standard pricing for the last three units. I wish I had more to sell at the lower price, but the few that I had are nearly gone.
For those that ordered these, they go out via priority mail tomorrow.

It appears you can order this book from the Royal Geographical Society - UKP 60 including postage - translates to about US$120 including shipping.
http://www.rgs.org/OurWork/Publications/EAC+publications/Expedition+Logistic+manuals.htm
The order form doesn't say anything about needing to be a member.

I got my copy from there recently, although thankfully being in the UK means it was for £35. The printed price on the back cover is £22.50 i.e. about $45. It is a great reference manual, the 2nd edition being in monochrome and paper back.

My 1998 edition is hardback, and in color. But I'm wondering if new material was added in the subsequent edition?
