Hey folks in Colorado...

http://www.govliquidation.com/aucimg/photos/3426/3425632.jpg

I found a few interesting trucks on Government Liquidators worth looking at. They are at FT. Carson

http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=1095411

There are 6x6 with a shelter on the back, low mileage, multi-fuel motor, CTIS, Auto trans, etc.

A word of warning!!!! Government liquidators are SCUMBAGS and ASSUME that they are going to sell you crap! Don't buy anything from them unless you personally inspect it!

You've got it! $50 bucks starts the bidding process. I'd guess that they'd end up selling for anywhere from 3 to 5K.

Here is a GREAT blog for military vehicles called Steel Soldiers. I'm joaquin suave over there too.

You are sure to find any information out about military vehicles there.

Joaqin, the trucks pictured do not look like what you described, except for the shelters. The upgraded duece-and-a-half (M35A3) with the CTIS, auto tranny, and power steering have a completely different appearance. Those trucks look like M35A2, and while the A2 was a decent truck, it does not have the auto, the power steering, the CTIS, nor does it have the 6 large single wheels, as you can see by the photo those have 10 wheels (duallies on the back.) I drove A2's all over Germany, Korea and the US and while they were enjoyable (you knew you were driving a by God Truck!) they would be about my last choice for an expedition vehicle. Trying to turn one around on a narrow road is like torture.

Also, AFAIK, the A3s went to reserve and guard units, as active duty units got the more expensive FMTV (cabover) 4x4s and 6x6's.

Check this out:

For a photo of an M35A3. Notice the 6 large all-terrain tires, the CTIS (under the triangle-shaped covers on the wheels), headlights moved out to the fenders, etc.

Also, for those who DO find an M35A3 (and incidentally, I've never seen an M35A3 with a shelter on it - every one I saw had the standard cargo bed) just an FYI, the CTIS is very trouble prone. I've never found one that worked right on a consistent basis. Nothing like driving down the road at 40mph and all of a sudden your tire pressure drops without warning!

Thanks for the FYI Martinjmpr...

I wasn't personally interested, but was sharing info that I gleaned from the Steel Soldier Blog. Those trucks were on Gov. Liquidators (scumbags!) website and actually did have CTIS.

I have a prototype FMTV with CTIS and have to agree with you about the issuses CTIS presents.

I've gone and rebuild each wheels control unit and NOW only one wheel leaks! Its a good excuse to turn the motor over every couple of weeks.

Here is the thread about my FMTV (named Libelula)

A friend of mine ended up with two A3's rebuilt by AM General. Nice rigs - super singles, CTIS, Cat Motor, huge hydraulic winch etc. He sold one on to another friend who had a camper company produce the attached.

It's been around. The owner installed an overdrive which produced reasonable highway speeds but I've heard the design limitations of the original platform have always been an issue. Primarily - heat at prolonged highway speeds. Last I heard it had baked the overdrive.
