Hi Guys,

So I've been mulling the idea over, and I am thinking of getting a Hella FF ultra beam light to wire up to the rear of my roof rack to act as a camp light. The idea is to use it when I first arrive in a camping location in dark to set up or to use while cooking (aimed down to the side), etc instead of a lantern. It could also be used as a reverse light at night for low light situations like on a tight trail.

What do you think?

a) a Hella style male connection to plug in to the National Luna power pack so that the entire system is removable; however it would require manually going back there to plug it in/on and off when needed.

OR

b) another relay on a switch up front and permanently mounted to the rack.

Either way: How could I use the Power pack as my power source to make this light work on a switch? Wire in my hot lead that would normally be at the battery to a hella plug? I'd like the ability to run it off the auxiliary power when I'm not in motion, yet still be on a switch.

I'm confusing and difficult. I know.

Not sure if this will work for your particular application or not. But it's an idea that worked similar to what you're thinking.

I stole it from binski. He made a swivel/extended light on his Jeep Trailer. I used the idea on my sea fishing poll holder:

Is there a write-up?

I guess my main question is how do I power things from the National Luna Power pack? I saw that SafariPacific did a mod to his pack where he opened it up and wired an external fuse block to it...from the photos, it seems simple enough...maybe I'll give him a PM.

I tried searching for his post.

Could you please share the link to his light build ?

He is a member here but has no posts.
and i could not find it on the Jeep forums via google.

Thank you,

Rob

He has a build thread on JF about his Jeep Trailer, but no build thread on the light.

It's not that hard though. get an extra light, attach it to an extendable pole(I used a paint roller handle), mount it how/where you want and wire it.

What do you think?

I have a Land Rover work light on my Jeep rack. A friend uses a Hella model on his Disco rack, but I don't think it's that same model. His light is wired to his backup lights and comes on automatically, or it can be turned on manually. Mine is turned on manually via a toggle switch on my dash.

Works great in camp and as a backup light.
