I am installing a 4.5" lift on my TJ. I also am installing a Rough Country transfer case drop to help the drive line. Does anyone have experience with lifting this much and having drive line issues, thus needing to install a SYE.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

you'll know when you drive it afterewards.

driving your rig with vibes is bad for the driveline. you can break u-joints, blow pinion seals, crash your junk and endanger the safety of others.

i'ts kinda a big deal.

Yeah, I know it could be a bad day. haha

I am prepared to drop the $700 on rear control arms, drive shaft, and SYE. I guess I am trying to figure out if some people have had no issues with a 4.5" lift and a t-case drop. It will be what it will be, just trying to get an idea of what others have experienced.

On my 02 TJ, I added the SYE from the get go to eliminate any potential problems later (4.5 RE Long arm kit). On my 04 Unlimited, I just went ahead and added an Atlas (Custom 3 link in front with coil overs and bump stops, 4 link in rear).

IMO, your going to need it, so you might as well do it form the start instead of doing it later. One other aspect of the SYE to consider is that with it, you can remove the rear drive shaft and still limp home (Front wheel drive). You can't do that without the SYE kit.

Why lift 4.5" and then drop the belly?Loosing clearance...
With any lift above 2.5"-3" you need a SYE and the rest...
Give another 300$ and go for the Tummy Tuck:victory:

i worked on a guys cherokee who installed his 4" lift before he had the SYE kit installed. he commented how horrible it was and ordered the SYE kit a few days later.

i can't remember which kit the guy bought, but it came with a rear driveshaft replacement as well. it might have been a Tom Woods kit.

My SYE kit came with a woody as well :D

I figured I was spending the cash and had the whole thing apart anyhow, so I did it to avoid problems.

I don't believe any change in ride-height should occur without some sort of correction to the driveline. If it was me, I wouldn't lift my vehicle until I was prepared to perform this modification as well.

Can it wait? Yes. Should it wait? No. Will it be tolerable without it? Maybe. That depends on you. "No vibes" to one Jeeper might be "has vibes" to another. Either way, you can minimize wear-and-tear with the correct driveline geometry.

Is there any reason to not do a SYE on a stock or slightly lifted jeep, like a 2 inch lift on an XJ?

with the longer wheel base, a 2" lift should not give you any problems. This mainly affects the short wheel base wranglers.

I think I should just order it now. I am not installing until mid-May. It would be nice to have everything ready to install.

I did a 3.5" on my TJ and even with the t-case drop it still had vibrations. Yeah, just do it all at once and get it done with.

To my mind, it should be done even with 0" of lift.
