Well finally had a hitch failure due to the moto rack...broke the back mounting bolts and it hit the ground....fortunately the steel going out aft acted like a couple of wheelie bars...and kept my yz125 off the pavement....

Did you exceed the hitch's rating with the weight of the carrier + bike?

This hitch does not seem strong enough, it appears to be home made.
That is your problem.

Finally had a hitch failure? Jeez man, you make it sound like you were just waiting for it to happen. That hitch is garbage.

Yeah, that doesn't look secure at all. You're lucky it wasn't worse.

This is a borrowed vehicle, so I did not buy or put or make the hitch on there.
It said 300lbs (tongue), so I thought, OK perhaps I can get 21 miles to my riding ranch with the 185lb YZ125.....got about 4 miles, hit a bump, and actually the hitch did not break, the bolts did!
I agree its rubbish.
I've been using the carrier on lots of cars (mostly my G's, FJ80s, and Sprinter Van) over the past 8 years since it was made...this was the first failure.
No doubt, it won't be put on this car again! I heated it up (the hitch) bent it back, and rebolted it with some good quality Gwagen axle bolts...and towed a rolling trailer with the bike yesterday instead of the rack...seems to like that just fine.
