My wife and I have a retired service dog (narcotics and SAR) and he's been great so far and he loves coming on our trips with us. This summer though we would like to take him on a canoe trip with us in the Rockies. He loves to swim and is a great swimmer but has never been in a canoe with us. He is also prone to getting small seizures when he is very hot and when he's very excited... When he has a seizure, he just tenses up and kinda just zones out for about 10 seconds. I would hate to have an incident with the canoe where he might go over and have a seizure on the river... I've been looking at a lifejacket for him but I wanted ask your opinions first on what you have used and what he might have experience with already.

Thanks!
Mark

My vizsla pit bull mixed breed wears a PFD from Outward Hound whenever we are on the water. No issues. She got used to it on the first trip and it completely supports her 56 pounds.

This is the one I use for my two Boxers; male 75lbs, female 55lbs. http://www.pawsaboard.com/dog-lifejacket-pet-life-jacket.asp The two of them were swimming in the pool today. The female sinks like a rock without her vest. Used the vest at the beach too. The construction is pretty good, has both velcro and straps under their chest and a sturdy handle to pull them out of the water if need to.

I'll take a look at those ones... I wish I could see em in person to check out the durability/fitment for him. It's good to hear good reviews from people actually using them.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he's a Belgian Shephard, 9 yrs old and 77lbs.
