I have something similar that I installed on my D2, they are 6" wide from the door sill till the end and can be used to get into the car.

Only difference from yours is they are made of metal, bolt using C channel construction to the sill, oh and they are called rock sliders.

If you need a pair now that you are done with the running boards let me know I have an extra set!
