Y9our winches look great. But I have to admit I do not know the story behind Pierce winches. Is there somewhere I can find out more about the company and where the winches are made?
Thanks,
Tyler

Thanks so much Tyler! Here is some info about us. About our winches, the PS654 are made in the U.S. while the recovery winches are imported.
Company Description
Pierce Arrow Inc. manufactures recovery equipment, accessories and winches. We are engaged in the off-road, towing, farm, ranch and landscaping industries. We are chiefly concerned with designing products that are economical, durable and customer-focused.
Pierce Arrow has been family owned and operated since 1976 in Henrietta, Texas, 2.5 hours north of Dallas.
History
Jeff Pierce graduated from Texas Tech University in 1976 and wanted to be his own boss. Pierce began his business with his late father, George Pierce, selling consignment boats, cars and anything with a motor. Under his retail identity, Pierce Sales, Pierce quickly became one of the largest distributors of Ramsey winches in 1978. Pierce broke ties with Ramsey and started his own manufacturing of industrial and self recovery winches. Pierce acquired the replacement parts and drawings for Desert Dynamic, Thor and Viking winches in the 1990s. The PS654 series worm gear electric winches were designed by Pierce's close friend, John Glew. Glew's simple and efficient design has endured three decades of heavy wear and tear.
Current
The father-son heritage continues as Wade Pierce, Jeff's oldest son, joins his father at Pierce Arrow. Wade graduated from Abilene Christian University in 2008 with a business management degree.

Ryan - You are right! We have handled many products. Jeff and George sold quite a few different products from boats to tractors to trailers in the first few years. The winches turned out to be their favorite product. The winches continue to be our bestsellers.
Our products are designed for the work truck whether it is in the farm, ranch, towing, oil field or self recovery industry. These industries require equipment that works and is cost effective.
We are an adaptable company and our product line shows it.

Tabitha, thanks for the thorough answers. One more question, though. Are the imported recovery winches built from your design and specs, or are they generic-label winches that you re-sell? Can you share what country they are built in (China would be the most obvious guess)? Thanks!

Do you guys still make worm drive electric winches?
I did not see any.
It looks like the PS654 DC Industrial Winch System (http://www.piercesales.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=WINCHKIT1) is the worm-drive line (also the made-in-USA line). Looks like they're a bit cheaper if you buy one of the pre-spec'd models instead of made-to-order (I linked to made-to-order to get an idea of options available).

Chris,
The PS recovery series is imported from China. We improved the basic winch by redesigning the clutch housing to improve the free wheel capabilites.
Thanks!

I just scored a rebuilt Desert Dynamics T200 :)
A couple quick questions:
1) Is it fully compatible with this upgrade (http://piercesales.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=PS574K&type=3&eq=&desc=PS654-Series-12,500-lb.-Conversion-Kit&key=it)?
2) Proper lubrication for the gear case?
3) Any issues with motor up or motor down orientations?

brained -
So glad you found a Desert Dynamic. We are happy to help! My answers are in bold.
1) Is it fully compatible with this upgrade? PS574K
Yes
2) Proper lubrication for the gear case?
80% 15W-40 Motor oil, 20% Lucas Oil Stabilizer
3) Any issues with motor up or motor down orientations?
No, just make sure the terminals on the motor don't touch any possible ground sources.
Let us know if this helps. Our winch tech is Chris and he can be reached at 940.538.5643 x314.
