X-Jack use question

My shiny new X-Jack showed up from Sierra Expeditions yesterday and with this WONDERFUL thing called Day light Savings Time (you can't see it, but there is a glob of sarcasim dripping off that statement) I had time to play with it.

I tried it on our Suburban and after cutting the exhaust pipe straight (it had been ding a bit on the end) I found a nice flat spot under the frame midway front to back.

I think I'm doing something wrong though, because the jack wasn't able to lift the truck just using exhaust. I fit the cone on and it inflates to a good size and the body moves a little, but it won't get a tire up. The tailpipe funnel thingy is hard to hold on the pipe and screams like a banshee (I really should have have ear plugs). No kinks in the hose and I can feel pressure in the first hose.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? This is with the 6.5L diesel. When I hook up the air tank, it'll lift it right off the ground like it should, with no problem. But with this truck I don't want to have to carry air around. The truck is about 6500lbs and it's empty, so this is well within the x-jack range.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have one that will lift my suby up without a problem but with my dodge >7000# it will fill flex on the springs but not lift anything, you do get better fill time with someone pressing on the gas but I can't lift my rig. I hope someone can tell us we are doing something wrong since I thought it would be so cool.

Try using a ratchet strap around the frame and the axle when the truck is on the ground to keep the suspension from flexing when the jack lifts the vehicle. That way you will not have to lift is as far. :)

I had to rev the engine to get this similar jack to work.

FWIW I scaled my '79 Sub at the Camarillo Harbor Freight scales some time ago. When pretty much empty of all gear it was a little over 5300 lbs. With a small block & th400 the axle weight difference was around 100 lbs heavier on the front.

You're right, it didn't!
I had tappered the tailpipe to get a good fit but it would always start pushing my hand off the pipe before the unit was inflated. Pressing the gas might have helped, but I'm not sure.

This isn't the final truck I'll be using it on so I'm waiting until the other one is ready. Either way, I'll be getting on-board air at some point to assist. I did use the air tank in my garage to lift a Defender quite easily. A ratchet strap would be a great idea.

You shouldn't have any problems lifting the vehicle with the X-Jack. I've lifted the front of my Tacoma (both sides) off the ground.

You do need a square tailpipe exit. Have one person holding the cone one (with the supplied leather gloves ;)), while another gently revs the motor. While it doesn't take alot of pressure to lift a rig (starting ~5psi), it surely helps to rev up the motor thus increasing the output volume & pressure)
