Awesome truck!

IMHO though the older style back with the new Taco style front looks quite odd!

I wouldnt let that bother too much though! :smiley_drive:

Yes, would someone please give us a few good 4x4s with a nice factory installed turbo-diesel under the bonnet in a few years!

I'm partially holding my breath as I think a couple choices might actually materialize in the coming years. That is, I think the diesels are coming, how good the 4x4 platform will be is possibly the more difficult question. Mercedes will have their 3.0L Bluetech in their new SUV this year, and VW has offered the V10 TDI Touareg for $55,000.00! Neither car is what I'm looking for in a 4x4 nor have enough aftermarket support to make them better.

Hi guys,
I recently returned from a few weeks in Africa and saw these:

The Troopie was one of maybe 50 identical trucks sitting at the port of Tunis. Nice truck but strange that Toyota decided to stick with leaf springs in the back and that they've gone to a plastic front bumper. It's just cosmetic, but I prefer the previous version's round headlights. Another thing that's odd are the tires as they are Dunlop sand service (same tread as Michelin XS) but don't seem to be available in the rest of the world.

Take a look under the front end of the 100 Series (actually a 105) and you'll see that it uses a solid axle. I believe that Africa is about the only place that this is still available. It also had a full floating rear, another thing we don't get.

The last picture is of a Defender based small dump truck. It uses an electric pump to drive the hydraulic dump cylinder, similar to a pickup mounted snow plow. Really nice little unit.

All cool trucks, too bad we can't get them here.

I was wheeling with a group last weekend and one guy had one with the 6 cylinder turbo-diesel here in Guatemala. That was the first time I saw one. Looks a little weird with the aerodynamic headlights!!

The one I saw last weekend was two months old and cost Q265,000 which works out to $35,000 US with the 6 cylinder turbo-diesel, 5 speed, lockers and winch!

How many do you want?

it's pure speculation, but my impression is that they have done this change to the front design to accomodate the larger new V8 and probably for some safety regulation issue (when you hit a pedestrian....)

i do like the older design better...like the one I have..

that's not bad. Maybe we should start a camper conversion(poptop) company in Guatemala based on this Troopie...similar to the Australian model. The customer will need to fly down there to pick it up (purchase or rent), and then get to drive it around Central/South America...

You can come here and buy one (the roads are all paved between here and California) but I doubt EPA or CARB would let you register it in Kalifornia not to mention NHSTA needing a crash test or two!

This is the one we were wheeling with http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=152631

G'day all,

Yeah the new cruisers are pretty good. I work at Toyota here in Melbourne, Australia and we were the first to get them here. The engines themselves have alot of potential and are extremely underpowered in their current form.

The 200series wagon coming out next year has a twin turbo setup of this and an intercooler and pumps out 600-650 nM of torque.

I dont know if you guys have heard of D-Tronic there in the states but a company here in Oz makes power chips for turbo diesels and they get them moving big time. I have heard of a 7.3 F series powerstroke diesel that pumps out 950 nM of torque just with a chip mod......thats awesome.

Anyway, back to the cruiser, the medium wheel base wagon is a nice family car, though it doesnt get the twin tanks that the cab-chassis and the troop carrier get.

They really are indestructable these trucks, even the older ones go on for ever and feel like they could tow a house.

anyway, while you guys drool over our cruiser's, we wish our Hilux's were like your Taco's...he he he!

no...no you don't. trust me.

Any ideas on what the suspension is going to be on the new 200 series or the weight?

As far as I know the new Cruiser known as the 200 series wagon will have independant suspension all around, developed by some company here in Australia.

It wont be the offroad king anymore, that will be upto the 70 series variants.

The 200 series will be a on road family cruiser and large soft roader.

I honestly do not see it being as tough as its reputation used to be.

Oooooohhh, ouch. Not independent rear suspension.....:smilies27

Gosh, I really hope not. I would be OK, if they at least carried over the 100 series rear axle and front IFS.

From the photos I've seen, that thing is HUGE. Although a turbo diesel version would sure be nice. It will be interesting see what we get here in the states. With Toyota's new 5.7 V-8 making gobs of horsepower, I'm sure we'll see as that the primary and probably only engine option.

But IRS....please say it ain't so.....

LX570 has a straight rear axle while the LC200 gets IRS? I doubt it.
