This thread will be dedicated to host a list of links to the websites/blogs of overland travelers around the world. Two things to keep in mind: One, is that there are hundreds of blogs out there. Two is due to the finite nature of most expeditions, some links are to trips that have been completed or are on pause. All of the links will lead to wonderful adventures, photos and insight that will be useful for future travelers, couch travelers and folks wishing to live vicariously through others.
Please post if you would like to recommend other links that should be added, this is a work in progress and since there are trips and blogs being "born" everyday... it will always need input.
I think the King and Queen of long range overlanding should be first Emil and Liliana Schmid http://www.weltrekordreise.ch/ the world record holders… they have been on the road for more than 26 years (as of 2010) driving an FJ60. Their site is a little hard to navigate but well worth it.
Landcruising Adventure (http://www.landcruising.nl/): Marijke and Coen, a Dutch couple have been driving their ’84 Diesel Landcruiser since 2003… methodically and slowly visiting getting to know the Earth, they are really doing it the right way.

Drive Nacho Drive (http://www.drivenachodrive.com/) in their own words: At the end of 2011 we quit our jobs and set off in our 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon, "Nacho". Our plan? Going Overland (http://www.goingoverland.com) Follow Helen and Paul as they drive their Land Rover around the world. Overlanding in their words: "Overlanding is not about ticking off miles or destinations visited, chalking up experiences or collecting souvenirs. It’s an opportunity to stretch ourselves, get outside our comfort zone, to learn from that experience. It’s a state of mind, a lifestyle choice, a chance to learn to live with the rhythms of nature, not protected from the earth by a layer of concrete and a Tesco’s down the road."
Patagonia or Bust (http://patagoniaorbust.com/) are Joe, Kylee and their killer Tacoma (check it out) (http://patagoniaorbust.com/about-us/our-truck-2/). (http://globalroadtrekker.com)
Where the Eyes Go (http://wheretheeyesgo.blogspot.com) Kaytie, Christian and their 2002 are driving around the Americas. In their words: "The car goes where the eyes go." Great idea Luis,
Families are plenty out there, most of them who me meet are French. Recently:
Igor and his family (http://www.5dm.fr/) of 5 are in Brasil.
http://www.5dm.fr/Tour_du_Monde_files/shapeimage_12.png
Then there are two families on tandem bike that we know of. We met one of them recently: the Verhage (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/4438) family and the Vogel (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/familyadventure) family.
There are many more out there. I don't want to hijack this thread. But there is a great website out there who does sum up a lot of good websites: The Africa Overland Network (http://www.africa-overland.net/). Have a look and go exploring if you have the time :-)
Adventurous greetings,
Coen
Nice info, but wanted to clear out a point read on Nicholas Rapp's Transworld Expedition in his 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser where he wrote that he avoided to travel through Chile "due to the problems it was facing" .. what problems my God ? My dear , he missed on of America's cleanest, safest, organized, and friendliest country (remember Paris Dakar Rally ? , this next 2011 again here ... for some reason you might ask yourselves). I hope he meant because of the earthquake in late Febraury '10 (but now you don't even notice anything of this , don't remember we are talking 8.8 scale where in other parts of the world over 300.000 souls died).
In fact, Chile is the most stable economy and safest country around and next year will be the 3rd economy in the world to expect largest economic growth only following China and India accoding to Wall Street Journal's experts (not bad for a country of only 16 million compared to those of 500 million and 300 million souls).
For a tourist, traveller or expeditionist , Chile with its Atacama Desert in the north and Patagonia in the south, is a dream come true.
Thanks for listening.

There is no Hijacking here, this should be a collaborative effort. There are too many travellers out there for me to keep up. I am on the road.
In fact I have a feeling that maybe the format of this thread may not be conducive to have an endless list of links. Any ideas of how we could do this in a way that links would be better organized and more easily accesible?
Alphabetical? Feedback, please.
The other issue is language. Like Coen mentioned, most families traveling are French and therefore their sites are in French, should I post them here? There is an insane number of German overlanders, some of their sites are in English... most in German, do I post those?

Personally I find that if the website looks interesting from an adventure perspective, then I'll be glad to use Google translate. Sure, you get a lot of really strange translations, but you will also get the excitement and adventures they are trying to tell you.
The mindsets of overlanders are quite similar, no matter what country you originate from.

I agree. Google translation is quick, easy and not too bad at all... It works well enough to get the point across, most times quite clearly.

Go ahead and post them up with "in French" or "in German" in parenthesis. If I just had a couple of minutes for some quick travel inspiration I'd probably pass them up.. but then come back to them at a later date when I had more time to glean what I could.
I know that www.ihana.com happened quite awhile ago now but it is still the best Latin American travel site out there in my opinion. I've been through and through it and can never get enough.

I hope I did not bite of more than I can chew :victory:.
I will start adding other languages and completed adventures. Josh, Ihana is an awesome one that we read thoroughly when we started planning our trip.
Keep in mind that we are on the road ourselves, so posting links will not be daily. Keep the PM's, posts and emails coming. Thanks for the help.

Let me contribute a favorite: http://www.goannatracks.com
This is the blog of Kym and Lyn Bolton, Australians who are in the middle of a round the world adventure. Starting in Brisbane, they shipped their vehicle north to Kuala Lumpur, and to date have driven 20,000 kms north through southeast Asia, Nepal, western and central China, Mongolia, and now Russia.
There's an ExPo thread about the Boltons' trip here
http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44366
Kym and Lyn are familiar with Russia. They drove the Road of Bones through eastern Siberia, and on through central and western Russia and Europe in 2007. They stashed their vehicle in England, and returned to drive south through France, Spain and Morocco in 2008. You can find links to their blogs about those trips on the goannatracks.com web site.
Upon reaching Vladivostok in October, the Boltons will ship their vehicle to USA for adventures in 2011. In 2012, Central and South America are on the agenda.

http://ramblewriter.com/ This couple from North Carolina inspired me to prep my 1st gen 4runner for a Pan Am adventure. They've been writing a book of their travels, but I'm not sure if it's finished yet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these blogs are from the couple who started drivetheamericas.com . If so, they've worked hard to present good info for prospective travelers. Check it out...
http://joydrive.ca/ from Calgary to Ushuaia in a '91 VW golf. :Wow1: Impressive they didn't elbow each other to death...not a ton of room in those.
http://www.thedarienplan.com/ They did the Pan Am in an Ecamper.
http://southboundhound.weebly.com/ Another 1st gen 4runner (sorry, I'm biased!) driven by Jeff Sarmento with his faithful dog Nota. I've exchanged some emails with Jeff and he's been very helpful. He's currently working on a book about traveling with four-legged friends.
http://www.alongdrive.com/ a Canadian couple in an FJC.
http://southboundexplorers.com/ Canadians in a VW van.

Thanks red, I knew all the sites you mention except for SouthBoundHound. Ramblewriter and Joydrive are two of our favorite sites (Lacey and I). The reason I have not posted them yet is because they have all completed their journeys. I am preparing a "completed journey" links section. Keep posting if you find more.

Oops, my bad. I overlooked that detail.
Yep, we officially gave it the green light a couple months ago and we've started planning and preparing the truck. The plan is to wait two years so we have plenty of money to work with...The trip will most likely start at the beginning of 2012, roughly lasting about a year...but that's pretty optimistic since we are doing the drive round trip. I know how easily these trips get extended :ylsmoke:

Great couple, I was lucky to spend a long weekend with them camping and riding in the Colorado mountains back in 2007. It was not enough time to hear all of their stories. The one story I will never forget is from Brazil. As they were traveling in the jungle, Simon crashed and fell from a bridge. He broke his neck. It took Simon and Lisa almost a month (I believe they said 28 days) to make it to a hospital, where they put screws in Simon's neck. During the trip to the hospital Simon was constantly passing out... But I am sure they talk about it on their website.

Good, they can use all the support they can, as for parts? I guess lot's is mechanical and like us make things on the go...

Add it when you get a chance or I'll get Christian (who's sitting here with us in Playa Zipolite) really drunk tonight and make him do it later.

o.k. might as well enter our own page, although we finished our trip in 2009:
dare2go.com (http://dare2go.com) from the Arctic Circle in Canada to Tierra Del Fuego in South America... We published from Mexico onwards all our camping logs with GPS data and detailed descriptions.
http://i979.photobucket.com/albums/ae273/dare2go/vehicles/Overlander/imagephptwg_albumEcuador3twg_show101PNCajas.jpg
The natives can't be bothered to inspect our camper - the guy with the camera looks more interesting with his white skin and thick alpaca jumper.
Next travelin-tortuga.com (http://www.travelin-tortuga.com/Site/Home_Page.html), who followed in our tracks to South America, now the 2 are a little less adventurous in Europe and Northern Africa. Good camping logs, too!
And 2 pages in German:
the first one, Auf Abwegen (http://www.auf-abwegen.de/) was an inspiration to our trip. Right now (02/2011) the two, Sabine and Michael, are in Africa with their Mercedes 4x4 truck.
Michael is a professional photographer, so some of his photos are simply stunning.
The second is of another couple from Germany, currently about 3 months ahead of Auf Abwegen in their MAN - also traveling in Africa (http://gotoafrica2010.wordpress.com/).

We started in 2009 to cross Africa in 4 months. But as always in Africa it comes different as you expect. Now we are still on tour (2011) have changed the campervan for an old Land Rover (Series 3 - she is beautiful!) and make a pause at the moment in Namibia. Many people asked us to write a BLOG about Crossing Africa (http://www.worldtravelshop.biz/crossing-africa/), so we started to do so and try to write everyday on post or more to keep up with the actual date. So enjoy reading our unbelievable story, which changed our lives completely.

great blog - I have had a Eurovan myself and had to deal with the infamous transmission...good luck. Discovered this image when I was just mooching about on t'internet, and it did make me smile :)
I loved my 130 Exped.......it did 5 years as a support truck for off-road motorcycle adventures in Morocco and took us on numerous family holidays......Superb off road, as long as you knew how to deal with berms and a 130 inch wheelbase :D
I got her stuck a good few times, but the most embarrassing was definitely when we decided to do some extreme shopping at the local supermarket 1 mile from home......They'd piled up metre high banks to stop the travellers from towing their caravans onto the dead lands around the supermarket.....I just couldn't see that as anything other than a challenge, so we took them one by one, until I managed to beach the thing on a particularly high one when I had to approach it a bit too straight on:Wow1:
Much giggling from the kids in the back, stifled laughter from the missus in the front as I got the high lift jack out, lifted the front up 18 inches, pushed the rig backwards off the jack and repeated it a few times until I regained drive :wings:
Happy days!!!

First post by the way, though long term lurker ...Hi all :)
EDIT........Looking at the pod on the back and the reg number, I rather suspect that mine came from the same place as the top photo....an ex-electricity board pylon servicing vehicle :D

I should maybe have posted this here, so it is moved.
Hi All,
My wife and I are steadily working our way around Scandinavia and Europe...Having been through Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia.
I was recommended to join this site from another, and it looks pretty good to me, I'm enjoying reading of others trips, as we nick wi-fi from outside a spa hotel somewhere....
It's a bit of an anthropological journey for me, or maybe just getting to know the neighbours. I am interested in the similarities and differences between all we tribes who inhabit this crowded Northern hemisphere. Some are roads well traveled, by better folk than me, but as the European dream seems ready to topple, I am interested in how the people feel.
I can assure you, there will be no self empowerment involved.

We bought a van, a load of gear, and I made it into a camper van. Pretty hurriedly in fact. The only bit that has let us down so far was Fords doing, ie the engine. The whole thing has been great fun, and a bit of hard work, so far.
Cheers, Kevin.

Hi, we are Pablo, Anna and The Cockroach, our Mitsubishi L300/Delica 1991 4wd van, travelling around the world since june 2000.
We started in Barcelona, Spain, and we've been through Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa from Cairo to the Cape. Then we crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a fishing vessel and we've overlanded slowly all the continental corners of America, from Tierra del Fuego in Argentina to Deadhorse and Inuvik in Alaska and Canadá. We've also completed the TransAmazon Road, the Panamerican Highway, the Dalton, the Dempster and travelled in several cargo ships.
We're finishing the translation of our first book in english, Around the World in 10 Years: The Book of Independence (http://viajeros4x4x4.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/todas-las-vidas-del-mundo/) (we have three books in Spanish) and we offer lots of information for overlanders (mainly in Spanish) in our webpage: www.viajeros4x4x4.com (http://www.viajeros4x4x4.com)
Now the Cockroach is in Vancouver, BC, from where we'll start the trip back to Mexico, Belice and Guatemala at the end of october. We'll make the impossible to join the Maya Rally and we'll be for the third time, next year, telling stories and encouraging people to travel at the Overland Expo in Arizona.
You're more than invited to visit our home at Around the World in 10 Years: writers en route at www.viajeros4x4x4.com (http://www.viajeros4x4x4.vom)
Cheers and many bad tracks!

When we get to panama there's a good chance that we will hop the ferry and continue south, but that all depends on how much money remains at that point in the trip.

I just added several PanAm overlanders. I really wish there was another way to organize/post new links... they seem to get lost. Please send me ideas for a better way to catalog new PanAm overlanders. For now, if you are a current, future or past PanAm vagabond and would like to be in the first sticky post please send me a PM or email (Luis@lostworldexpedition.com) with what you'd like me to post and a link to a photo you'd like posted. If you send me a PM or email you will be posted within a few days tops (unless I am in the Amazon jungle in 2013 :)
There seems to be a tremendous increase in North American folks driving the PanAm, and from reading the sites everyone will be extremely interesting to follow! Makes you wonder how many are out there without blogs or FB pages.
We are currently on hiatus working and making money for our return to the Landcruiser, currently parked in Chile waiting (hopefully).
Cheers.

If I may also add our names here:
http://www.pawsontour.com/iea/Salmon_Glacier-MINI.jpg
Me (Michel) & Ursi started in May 2012 in Halifax with a 1993 HZJ75 1HZ with turbo and H55F trans, drove to the Yukon and entered the US end of September 2012. Now spending 3 month here, after a short stop at a very nice Toyota guy (Brett, also here in the forum) we are now heading to Death Valley & Utah. We will enter Mexico in a few months and eventually driving down to Argentina.
We are trying to update the homepage since we are always a few weeks behind, especially with the english journals. I also will hopefully in the next few weeks the engine and car section since I also managed to finish the cabin section. So far only in german, sorry. Use google translator instead.
Now let's try those coole tipps from Brett in the death valley!

Hey Luis,
What do you think about moving this list onto http://wikioverland.org ?
I'm thinking there could be an off-shoot from the Pan American Highway (http://wikioverland.org/Pan_American_Highway) page, and another from the Africa overland routes (http://wikioverland.org/Africa_overland_routes) page. (Which I plan to greatly expand in the coming weeks).
By putting it on WikiOverland, which is an open wiki like wikipedia, anyone will be update to update/edit/delete the information whenever they want, and the responsibility won't fall to one person, i.e. you.
Thoughts?

hi there. Could you add a link to our blog?
http://seventeenbysix.wordpress.com/
Journalists Paula and Jeremy Dear parked their London life in 2011 and took to the road in Latin America for a while, maybe longer.
"We'll be writing about what we do, experience and learn between Baja California and Tierra del Fuego - our campervan highs and woes, the people we encounter, the places we visit and even a little bit of politics.
We're making the journey in a 1997 VW Eurovan camper. Our living space is now a vehicle measuring 17x6ft."

Hey Luis, we're working secretly on a very cool project to show current Overlanders and their whereabouts on a map with the lastest posts. I will get back to you on this, as I think it's a very cool idea. Still very testing the **** out of it.

Hey Luis, like Dan & Coen, we have also been busy with some development over the last few months, we have launched Overland Map beta (http://overlandsphere.com/overland-map) - which displays all posts on an overland map, (Dan & Coen, your more than welcome to integrate the map from our site into anything you are working on)
137522
The map is currently in beta but we are adding the following functionality:
Maps per continent / country
Overland routes by continents / countries
Possibly with live updates / comments
Ability for users to add the following to the maps
Accommodation / Camping spots & Reviews
Mechanics on the road – Reviews / info
Shipping Agents
Border crossing info on map
Overland Photo & Video Maps
Ability to filter maps by Overlander(s)
Overlanders Personal Maps
Not for profit organisations and volunteering opportunities
Overland Photo's & Videos
Ability to download and load all POI's & tracks to any GPS
We are also just building extended profiles into the site to create a searchable and filterable page of overlanders by the following criteria:
· Location / Region travelled
· Dates of Travel
· Vehicle Type / Model
· Date of last post
As part of the profile we will output a profile page which will include the above, bio, picture, social links (Web, FB, Google, flickr, Youtube etc) mods, personal overland map (displaying route & posts),
The kind of information we are gathering is on our registration page: http://overlandsphere.com/register
The profile will be available for those who syndicate posts to OverlandSphere and those who don't we will build a front end page where any user can suggest a new profile to be added to the list,
Ideally we are looking for the site to updated by users themselves, i,e their own profile data, add camp spots, accom reviews, mechanic reviews and other POI's, most other content is automated,
It is quite a bit of work but should be complete soon, the key is to build any functionality now into the design, prior to committing resource to finalise the core functionality & styling.
Therefore, any input or ideas would be welcome.
P.s As most are aware OverlandSphere is not for profit, so any dev. is out of our own pockets / overland budget, if any would like to donate their skills, or just help populate the site with information they have collated, it would be appreciated.
