Check these oilfield crew transport units a client is manufacturing.
They cite one firm who was down at one point this winter a whopping 24 trucks - all of them full size 4x4's.

Nice
Is this something that Mark, formerly of RMOR, is manufacturing?

That looks like Mark's work... :26_7_2:
Was the truck purpose built for up north in the summer? It should float pretty well over thawed muskeg.

He built me a rear bumper and full skid plates (3 of them) a few years ago.
His workmanship and work ethics are second to none.

The idea is year-round if I understand him correctly. I took these shots myself about ten days ago but I've seen photos taken in two feet of snow leaving a four inch impression. The brute appears to leave no more mark than a kid on a snowmobile.

Reminds me of those Icelandic Tacomas in a recent issue of 4WD Toyota Owner Mag. Big and wide. It's amazing how they float! But really tough getting through those tight trails.

I've never actually met him, but I have seen his work and he has an excellent reputation.
Have you heard much about the guys at Evolution? I went in and talked to them about a rack system I was thinking about and had a good feeling, but then got some other feedback that was less positive. Not sure what to think now...

Clayton at Evo built my front bumper.
He does very good work, but.............
The shop is very busy and work tends to get bumped off for various reasons. It may not get started on time or finished on time. If you have a few spare weeks to leave the vehicle there then he'll get it done.
That's the only less than positive feedback that I can give - it's scheduling of work.
I'll be building the rack for the Hannibal myself in the garage in a few weeks. How's your welding skills? I'm in Sundance.

That's pretty much the feedback I heard - scheduling issues but good work. I don't really like to leave my truck for weeks anywhere - heck my truck is sitting at Kal Tire at Chinook right now getting an alignment and the Mud Terrains siped and I don't like it!
I really wish my welding skills were better... I just don't have enough practice. I really would like a better rack system for the Tacoma and I have been playing around with creating one that essentially connects like an exo-cage from the rear bumper to the sliders - but I think it's way more than my skill can handle. Maybe I should just buy and Adventure trailer! :snorkel:
By the way, I'm actually not far from you. I'm in Evergreen.

I siped my muds by hand 2 years ago. About an hour per tire, easy to do.
We should do lunch.

Do you have a link to more pics or the company website?

I don't have any tools to do it properly so I figured since I'm getting an alignment I might as well get it all done :p
Lunch would be good. Can't this weekend and then I have a business trip coming up (Toronto). But let's talk about it next week.

Sounds good.
For siping I used a scraper with a razor blade. Other than a few hours of my time it cost me 5 bucks. Plus I can control where the sipes are located. Only did the inside lugs with 3 to 4 cuts on each one.

I put together a brochure for the units, which contains more photos and some specs. I'll post the brochure here from the office on Monday.

That thing is crazy!!
Love the Portal axles and the step stirrups. What do they do if they get a flat? :jump:

Hey, that's me. Our company website is currently under construction so here is the skinny. We rent low impact vehicles to the energy industry. The modded subs pictured start as a HD 3/4 ton Suburban which we fit 2.5 ton axles under and 50x28 floatation radials. We only end up 20" higher than a stock sub and you can now get work crews into sensitive areas and the worst roads imagineable are now easily navigated. Some of the roads in the oil industry are severe to the point that crew trucks get in dragged behind a Caterpillar which is destructive, expensive, and slow never mind the damage to the private roads which these operations are carried out on. We also have have trucks on F-350 crew cab platforms and scratch build articulating 6x6 bed trucks. Our trucks and equipment are used by drilling contractors, exploration companies, pipeline companies, environmental companies, etc.
Hey Iggy, thanks for the compliment. It was a pleasure doing work for you as well.

Mark,
Welcome to Expo.
I didn't think you'd read my comments and I am blushing. :victory:
I've been lurking here for quite some time. I'm building a F-450 crew cab based rig with Cummins power. This is one of the best sites I found so far. The kids are finally getting old enough for some outdoor adventure. It's good to "see" a familiar face on the board.
