Does anyone have a wiring diagram or have personal experiance with the horns on these. I have replaced the relay. Checked fuses but according to my fuse panel there isn't a fuse for the horn but pulled and checked them all. The plastic spring holder was cracked behind the steering wheel so I went with a Grant install kit with a new wheel and got nothing. My inspection is out (almost 2 months) and I want to get it on the road to go wheeling now that my move is over and we have settled back down. Could the horns be bad or have a bad ground. I have searched google, NAXJA and Jeep forum but nothing is really coming up.
A honk in the right direction would be great.
Thanks,
Paul

To check to see if the horns are bad, run a quick jumper wire for the battery to the horn. Do you have a 2nd fuse block under the hood on the RH side inner fender? I'll look in my Haynes Manual when I get home tonight.

Let me check. But I doubt it because of the old Renix/AMC wiring junk.

The bracket for the horn is the ground...clean the surface where it is mounted...I battled the same problem.

Did you check all your fuses and relays? I'm not sure on a jeep, but for some weirdo reason on my '89 S10 pickup the horn is on the same fuse as the radio. Its weird and I've never seen that ever before, but my horn button in that pickup kept shorting out so the horn would honk whenever I went over bumps and stuff, so I took the fuse out but when I did that the radio quit working, I put the fuse back in and the radio worked again. There is the spot for the fuse that is suppose to be in the radio circuit, but there is no fuse there, which means that some previous owner mucked around with it and wired it stupid. I kind of wonder if your XJ may be the same way.

I did have a blown fuse for the radio and it might be that way but the fuse is new and the radio works but the horn is out. I'll check the grounds tomorrow and try the hotwire to check the horns. Anything else to check for?

So a little update, today I wired the horns to a switch by the shifter. I know the inspection guy pretty good so I hope that will work. I didn't want to mess with the plastic horn/spring/wiring behind the wheel anymore knowing I can't find the parts I need. Cross your fingers.
