View Full Version : Fender Flares?

Thinking about a set of fender flares for my '99 Taco, both for looks and functionality. I'm thinking about new wheels with less of a backspacing, and so they will fling mud everywhere if I don't get fender flares and/or wider mud flaps.
I saw the Bushwackers--$400 bucks for 4 pieces of plastic??? Seems a bit much....
Anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks!

I dont know too much about plastic fender flares but i have a set of fiberglass fenders that cost me 500 total including paint. After installing them i like the look and function of them, the mud doesnt fly outside of the fenders and if i wanted to i could squeeze a much larger tire in them.

I had a set of fiberglass fenders on my 99 tacoma and loved them. They allowd me to stuff a bigger tire in there with less lift as well as flex up into the well instead of rubbing. They also cut down on weight a bit, i was quite suprised to see how heavy the stock fenders were. Best part is you can go back to stock in 30 mins!:D
a good site to check is: www.glassworksunlimited.com
they have a few different sizes and run around 350 a pair i believe.

My wife bought me a set of Bushwackers for my Dodge a couple of years ago, but after only having them on a month I took them back off. After about the fourth time of almost ripping them off or smashing them with trees, I knew they weren't going to survive. So instead I had the rockers and rear bumper Rhino Lined, color matched to the paint. One of the best things I've done to my rig. Don't hear the rock pings on the back roads, no forest pinstripping, and it cleans real easy. You can't even notice the lining until you get up close, and I've had alot of complimants on it. It cost me $225 dollars here at our local dealer.

I am interested in some different flares too. Something that will allow trimming for a bigger opening, like a 36" opening :peepwall:

I have seen a lot of negatives on the Bushwhacker cut-outs... Most positive response is on the Xenon flares
Here is some good examples:

x2! They have some downsides tho...slight fitment issues on any glass, and necessary recreation of inner wheel well or acceptable liner. Upshot is in addition to less mud-flinging, they're very easy to trim, and you'll drop at least 100# of dead weight.

I have a question on fenders. My intake pulls air from my wheel well and being that i have fiberglass now, i have no lining anymore. It is pulling air and dirt that my tire is kicking up. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Sorry they are for pre '01's

What about the Warn ones? I do not think they offer much more of wider opening though.

well there are a couple solutions.
1. put a snorkle on it, cut the fendre so the cover and snorkle is flush, it will look good if you do it right.
2. move the intake. take the intake off the box and re route it either in the grill or higher in the engine bay, but that wil give you hot air comming in so it will decrease preformance.
