I have a 98 cherokee and have recently required a set of kchilites 69 series for free brand new the only place that i have to mount them is right above the windshield but with any dirt on the windshield the glare destroys any night vision you might have just curios if anyone has figured out a decent easy fix for this
thanks in advance for any help

Well, probably not what you want to hear, but IMHO, lights on the roof are good working lights when winching and other than that for looks only ... So far I have not met anybody who used roof lights successfully as driving lights.

The windshield glare can be avoided by pulling them back so the leading edge of the roof just shades the glass. Then you have to deal with a massive glare problem on the hood.

I have 3 hella's on my roof, They are great for utility...I have them mounted about 10" behind my windshield...no glare while driving.

in desert off road racing, we place the lights slightly forward and abit lower than the edge of the windshield. not sure if this is desirable or legal for a street car though.

Sounds like you could make some glare shields for the lights. They probably don't' need to that that big though.

As was said before, mount them back about 8"-10" form the leading edge of the windshield. I have zero glare from the hood of my Jeep and those are 100 watts each.

I have zero glare from the hood Thats cause you keep it nice and dusty from being off road, and not a "parking lot queen"

I have a roof top LED bar that I mount and dismount when not needed. My solution to hood glare was that big black hood decal. A forum member on SoCal FJ Cruisers sells and installs them. You can also purchase this decal from Toyota as it comes on the Trails Team Edition FJC. You can also go out and buy yourself some black vinyl and do it yourself. The black vinyl cuts all the glare off my hood and also provides from protection.

My lights are recessed far enough from behind the top of the windshield, I get zero glare on my windshield or hood.

Good idea....just looks like a tounge(sp?)I think they just made it large to justify what they're charging for a piece for plastic.

i use mine alot while driving. i find myself in deep water/mud enough that it can block out my headlights and everything on my bumper. its nice to have lights up high that can stay cleaner.

they don't look very clean, though :-))))))))))))))))))))))
but seriously: how do they work out for you in front of the windshield? glare on the hood??
that's what i didn't like on my xj - the hood being lit up (although it was black mat)

for the short of time i use them. and since they are fog pattern anyway i dont really worry about it.

i have thought about putting a piece of black plastic on the bottom half of the lens though. or spray paint it black.

I have 4 HID lights in the center of my roof rack and I solved the hood glare with a fold down cover. The cover protects and keeps the lights clean for use.
