Came home from work for lunch today and popped on Craigslist to check things out. A guy had an ad for a "Warn winch receiver mount--$75."

I've always liked the idea of a receiver mounted winch so you'd have the option of mounting it up front or in back. Warn wants $145 for their winch carrier, and another $200 for the front receiver mount, so the $75 bucks the guy was asking seemed pretty reasonable, so I hot-footed it over to his place to buy it.

Imagine my surprise when he opens the garage and I see the winch carrier with a nice, shiny, like-new looking XD9000i winch bolted to it! I asked him if it worked, and he said he was sure it did--but he'd never used it--it had come with the 2002 Dodge pickup he'd bought, and he'd just gotten a new 40' 5th wheel and new Dodge pickup and sold the 2002, and he'd forgotten all about the winch until he found it in a corner in his garage today.....

Needless to say I couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough--in fact I only had 20's so I just gave him $80 and told him to keep the change!!!! :wings: He doesn't know where the remote is and I'll have to buy the wiring kit, but man this thing looks like new for $80!!!!

Funny thing was I was going to order a new M8000 this afternoon when I got off work 'cause my new ARB bumper should be here next week.........

you got a little problem buddy, the xd9000i wont work in an arb. they are designed for the non intigrated solonoid, otherwise you will have to move your radiator, cut a hole in it, or cut a hole in the bumper. i found tha out the hard way.

Yeah, what he said....sooo....I would be more than willing to take that thing off your hands for, oh, $150 or so.....:costumed-smiley-007

Seriously, though, with it being a reciever mount, all you will have to do is rig up some kind of mechanism that will put a reciever out through the bumper somewhere. I seem to remember a thread where someone did something similar over on TTORA.

Yep, thanks for the heads up. I knew I would have to modify the ARB bumper with a receiver tube.

I really like the versatility of a front or rear pull, keeping the extra weight of the winch off the front bumper when I don't need it, and keeping the winch protected form the elements when I'm not using it. I thought about the Warn trans4mer winch mount, but the ARB is so much stouter and just a few hundred dollars more, so I decided to go with that.

well if you are going to do a multi mount system then i got an idea that might minimize work and make a stouter pull point.

im not sure about the 05 bumpers, but on mine the "feet" of the winch mounted forward. so get a 1/4" plate and cut it to fit over the four "feet" holes, drill the holes to match. then cut a square hole in the plate, weld your reciever to that plate so it sticks out one side, then make the winch line hole in your bumper bigger accomadating the reciever, mout the plate so it sticks through the bumper and your done. home made multimount! ill try and draw up a pic tomorrow.

like this, the long reciever part goes through the bumper from behind it where the winch would mount,

Heres the thread that Willman posted on how he modified his ARB for a multi-mount. He did a nice clean job with it.

Love the great deals on Craigslist! That's a heckuva find and well worth the extra $5..! :clapsmile

Even better than some of the deals are the "Best of Craigslist Rants." If you need a time killer, read through some of those. They'll have you rolling on the floor in laughter.

All Hail Craig!

Well now that I've had a chance to look more closely, I see that the winch is really a HS9500i, not the XD9000i like I thought. I guess I know so many people with the XD that when I saw it my mind read the numbers wrong.:coffeedrink:
So, any comments on the HS9500i? In researching it it looks like it's pretty much the same as the XD9000i with the obvious difference of being rated at 9500lbs, and also having high-speed retrieval (which is nice!) it also would seem from the specs that is has a lower amperage draw when under a load.

I notice that Warn doesn't make this exact model anymore, so I'm wondering if there were problems with it, or they just re-named it. The 8274 and XD9000 are legendary for toughness and reliability--what do you hear about the HS9500i?

Thanks!

Another thing with winching off the bumper is doing the end cap mod!

Here is where i got my idea of the end cap mod!

http://www.wattora.com/index.php?page_id=13

The endcap is very important if you plan on winching off these ARBs! I have seen a ARB bumper without the mod and it looked like the bumper had moved 1/2" at times while winching.

I took a piece of 3/16" angle 3x4 and custom fitted to the frame. I drilled 1/2" holes for the bolt and tic it into place.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f374/nicwillman/ARB%20Bumper/DSC01593.jpg

I drilled holes into the frame so i could weld rosebuds to give the endcap more muscle!

Here is the finished product.

well the 8274 was the first winch produced by warn and i believe it was the first eletric self recovery winch made available to the consumer instead of commercially. there alot of winches that arent made anymore like the x8000i, but i believe that the hs9500i became or was modified to be the hs9500TI and the m9000 became the m9000xp, the winchs evolve over time and warn will still cover the warrenty.
