This morning ant 11:00 am, Haggis' bonnie wee lass, Allison, harvested her first turkey on the Junior Turkey Day in PA. Preforming with the cool and focused mind of a seasoned hunter, Allsion took her gobbler with one shot and a clean kill. Then the excitement began! I don't know who was more thrilled, Allison or me. I've been told that she's gonna take over one of the freezers for her game this year and that we'll eat more of her harvest than mine. I hope she's right! If your interested in me posting a photo of her bird, let me know. I don't want to offend anyone who is squeamish at the sight of harvested game. What a great morning, just spending it with my girl watching all the critters come by. Man,:wings: I'm sure proud of that girl!

Fantastic, Allison - great job. Nice to have other lady hunters on the forum (at least through your Dad).
Dad Haggis - post pictures! How old is Allison? She's a lucky lady - and smart, too - getting out in the beautiful woods instead of sitting around a computer. Oops, guess I oughta go outside now and watch the sun set!

Here's the photo. DesertRose, Allison is 12, smart as a whip (honor roll every period), and stubborn like her mom! Heck she just won the bronze award in girl scouts. Her bird is a jake (young gobbler, for them there high fluentin' city folks), it had a double 4" inch beard and has 1/2" spurs. We had three jakes in front of us, 2 with slightly longer beards, but this one was bigger in body size. I asked Allison if she wanted to try for a bigger gobbler, she replied that you can't eat a longer beard, choose the bird she wanted and dropped it like a special forces sniper. She helped clean it and package it for the freezer, becasue Clan Haggis' first rule, if you kill it you clean it. Gotta learn responcibility from the start. I'm thinking Turkey Breast in a Red Wine marinade with a Rosemary rubbing, surrounded in potatoes and green onions. :chef:

Great photo - and nice story.
And the recipe sounds perfect! Learning to cook game well is also part of honoring the food we eat - I cringe every time I hear of ANY recipe with cream of mushroom soup!

Nice!!! turkeys are hard to get in montana. I think its easier to take and elk than one!!! So for now were stuck raising them in the back yard.
Beeeeutifull bird Allison!! So whats next???that elusive 12 pointer that dads been missing all these years (haha). Good job and congradulations

I've only seen one twelve point here abouts in all my times in the woods, and that was during bear season, dangnabbit!!! Next on Allison's must hunt list is squirrels, than waterfowl and then a buck. Though I prefer a nice yearling doe, mmmm.. tender and tasty. We'll trade you a guided turkey hunt for a chance at an elk hunt, mmmmm... elk ribeyes. My Pa got one of the elusive PA Elk tags and bagged a nice 7x7, hoping I can luck into a tag myself.
