well, after giving it intense thought and after looking for a vehicle with low miles decided to pick up a new 2007 jeep unlimited, jeep green X. auto, 4.10 axle ratio. 4x4 offcoure LOL... got it for a good deal.
the jeep is going to be used only for offroading and expeditions so it
should last me a long-long time.
now I just have to get started on the modifications,,nothing fancy but
eficient, will include,
?..32,33,s
black wheels
exhaust relocation and replacement"need a little noise"
lights
rock rails
winch
bumpers
gps
roof rack "might need custom made"
eezi awn tent
vhf radio
tank carrier
hopefully a snorkel will be soon available
just got back from picking up in San Antonio,, so will have pics tomorrow

Congratulations on your purchase! You will have alot of fun!
Plus there is plenty of accessories to play with.
Do you have the rear True-Lock Limited differential?

They have traction control, which is very effective on the trail in the models I tested.

Yes, the limited slip in conjunction with the Traction Control is even more effective.
Great set-up!

You are going to love it. The only thing about my JK purchase that I am second guessing is if I wasted some $$ going for the Rubicon. For 90% of the trails I travel the X or Sahara would have been more than adequate, but that 4.1 tcase is soooo sweet in the tricky spots.

Yea, you'll be really surprised what they'll do without the lockers. We played with it in Moab, climbing stuff without them, and it was insane how well it did without being locked up.

Congratulations! Great vehicle, great color. Looking forward reading your build-report. Let's see what you will do to convert it to a expedition vehicle. (so when the lease on my wife's Maxima expires and she takes over the Commander, I can get my JK Unlimited and just copy you :D)

I'm loving it! Congrats. Did you get a hardtop with it as well? If not, how are you planning on setting up a roof rack system?

Congratulations on the JK purchase! I also recently got an Unlimited soft-top, very similar to yours, auto, 4.10, Limited Slip, tow package... I will be setting mine up for some extended camping etc. (very slowly) and it will be great to see how your project goes. :clapsmile

thanks everyone for the nice comments.
I been looking at the available racks, now the question is to choose one or build one, the ones i have seen look like they might interfiere with a future snorkel however it can always be cut and redisgn int the snorkel side.
now about tires,, I been loking at stock setups with 33 x 11.5 and it look like it will work preetty good., 17 inch wheels with 4.5 backspace.
I also want to get a hard top ,,but I will wait for an aftermarket one, since
im reading that freedom tops have issues right now, besids there are more important things to spend the money on at this point.
so far I got my eezi awn 1200 in , my lights, gps, radios,.,
now just need the tires and wheels to get started, and the rack,,
I like to get everything in before I start,,.
will keep posting the evolution. here is a better pic.
forgot,,need rock sliders
.

congrats on your purchace. I need to find a really nice external rack to support a RTT. I really love the electric sway bar. It takes a jarring road into caddy ride. Made last weeks excursion nice. Only thing though I did not need 4x much, and to turn on the sway bar it needs to be in 4x mode. Oh well. the other thing that I noticed while I love the soft top, in really dusty conditions it does not keep the dust out and is a real pain when getting into the back. So this time I left the hard top on. which made it alot nicer when the jeep was covered in dust. But I had no place to store my freedom toppannels so I could not take them off. Hence the other reason for a rack. My only regret. not waiting 6 months. Now they get lifetime warrentee. and I bought 100K warrentee for an extra 2K and now lifetime is free. argh. oh well. Here is mine. I may sell the soft top and get a GPS or a fridge.
next mods. a rack and a fridge.

looking forward to how you build your rtt mounting system. are you going internal rack to bring the load to the existing roll bar or an internal rack. I have thought about both. But right now the wife says no to mounting the eezi awn on "Her" rig. probably mostly becaus my son who is almost 3 loves the ladder and is up and down all day. being on top of the jeep will just make the fall that much farther. Maybe in a few years. I am still going to get it set up for the option though. There may be a trip without my wife and son and I will just use the jeep

The light bar looks great. Can't wait to see it on the Jeep. Have you decided on what type of lights you are going to use. What is the center bar going back for?

lights will be delta tech 250 ,,I liked those because I think they will look good
with the square lines of the bar.
the center bar going back will have a mushroon type gps antenna on the tip.
now im just waiting on the UPS truck to bring the lights and antenna.

looks good. I have been thinking about building one that will mount the jerry can next to the tire. Or maybe hang behind the tire on some sort of tire strap on can holder. humm that might work. Or use your idea and once I get a full external roof rack mount the spare on it. I need my cargo space for my son and my junk.

if you are mounting on the tailgate is either tire or gas cans,, but not both,,"to much weight" ...

Very nice lookin ride!
With the tent on have you thought about a safari basket for in front?
Very nice lookin ride!
The hard top on the JKs have two removable panels above the front seats, so a rack above that wouldn't be the best option. Well, I guess unless he never plans on removing them. Most racks allow you to remove the panels even with the rack in place, but what good would that be?
The Jeep is looking good...really like the tent.

it has cross my mind.. actualy I welded some brackets on the front portion to be able to bolt either a basket or 2 scepter water can holders in the laying down possition,
