Does anyone know of a good 2m or 2m/440 mobile that can be remotely installed? I'd rather not cut on the dashboard of my truck but it would be nice to have some communications capability other than the cell phone. I think I've heard of some radios that have a remote faceplate that can be mounted anywhere, but I don't know enough to know the models.

Obviously I'll have to take the exam again to reactivate my license. Maybe I'll go for general now that there's no code requirement. I was a tech+ before but there's no way I could pass even the novice code test now!

There is no novice code test anymore. There is no Novice or Tech Plus ticket, either. In fact, one can get a Tech or General without knowing any Morse code.

To answer your question, most all of the mobile radios now can be remote-mounted. Some come with the remote kit (the Kenwood TM-v700A does and can only be mounted this way) while others require you to purchase it separately.

I have an Icom 208H 2m/440 in the jeep and like it. It comes with the separation kit to remote mount the radio.

Yeah the 208h is a great little radio. Probably the smallest remote face plate of any of the dual bands.
