View Full Version : 276c vs 376c weather or no weather?
so i have been trying to decide between the Garmin 276 and the 376..
the ONLY difference is the ability to show the weather.

the basic weather service is only 29$ a month

does anyone have the 376c with the weather service?
if so how quick does the radar update and such.

I'd vote for no weather... allthough it is cool, I can think of other things I could spend $348 on. Most place you can get weather updates for free.

I had a free subscription with garmin/XM for the weather and traffic. I wouldn't get either of them, the which includes basic weather is usually slow being updated which makes its more frustrating than anything and it only works in a handfull of cities. The dedictaed weather is good but it's overkill for what type of info we need, if you are a pilot or mariner then it would be a good service. Frankly the other weather I need is the broad overview from the NOAA channels.

Yes. But you need to add a data card and purchase the map CD.

well.. ive had the 276c for a little over a month and loved it..
it has now migrated into my work rig and my company now owns it :D
so this go arround im going to try the weather version with xm radio out, as it will more than likely end up in my new rig that is currently under construction :)

So i bought a second hand Garmin 276c. It i look at the maps they are all maps around Texas, southern California and Florida. how do i delete these maps and how do i get the default road map back on? right now, the unit finds the satellites but the map shows up very bland. its like made out of simple shapes and there are no roads, just dark blue where land it and blue where water is. how do i get the road map on?

on the map screen, hit the Menu button and choose "Map information" (or something like that - it is the last option on the list), from there you can arrow left and select which map information you want to see. Americas Basemap is the low detail maps of the entire US that is included free. If you want detailed map info for your area, you will have to purchase the Mapsource product that is relevant. I hear that the Mapsource Topo 2008 has far more detail than older Mapsource topo products.
PM me if you have more questions. I am shooting from memory so I may need to jump in my rig to get answers...
Best,
Todd
EDIT; you can also change the map detail to the "most" setting wich will give you a lot more detail at zoom levels over .5 miles.
