Problems adjusting DR coilovers

Help! I finally got the chance to install my DR coil overs. It was a rather easy install until I realized I had to lower it 1/2" so my roof rack wouldn't hit my garage entrance. This is when the problem occurred.

I jacked up the truck and loosened the set screw per instructions. Then I adjusted the passenger side fairly easily although there wasn't much room and it was fairly tight.

Next came the driver's side and the problems began:mad:. I jacked it up; loosened the set screw; and started. No room to get the spanner wrench in without being cocked and hitting the threads. So I got out some rubber padding to protect it.

It was much harder to turn than the passenger side. I managed one full turn, but need more.

HELP! Is there a secret I cannot figure out? How do you turn the collar with no room and it is tight as all get out?

First, did you soak it with something like WD-40? It's a really good idea to do that first so that the threads move easier.

I know with my SAWs there is not much room in there with the wheels on but it can be done. The collars are tough to turn and the easiest way I found was to us a cheater bar. I just slip my floor jack handle over the spanner wrench and it is extremely easy to turn. Especially if you are adjusting them up.

I spray mine down with PB Blaster before adjusting the collars. It soaks in better than WD-40.

Another tip.....
Sometimes their is no room for the wrench...Use jack stands to hold up the rig...(I do this with leaving the tires on)....Then take your floor jack under the a-arm and lift it up just a little to work the wrench inn! Doing that will provide a little more working room!

Success! I combined everyone's ideas and now I've lowered my truck just enough to clear the roof rack and get it into my garage.
