Just so we all can revel in one of the best things since? Stories, great brands, recipes etc. One place that Fernando from Camping Lab got me started with is Broadbent, they make some awsome sausage and bacon. :sombrero: Viva tocino!

Bacon is bad. M'kay? Don't eat bacon. M'kay? Leave it all for me, m'kay? So I can have double-meat BLT with avocado. M'kay?

My bacon of choice isn't really any brand at all. I get it from Burwell Butcher Shop in Thompson Falls MT. They buy all local meat and age and smoke it in house and don't use any weirdo chemicals or preservatives. So their bacon is extra thick, and since it was produced by a small pig farmer instead of a bigg huge commercial industrial food machine there is an incredible amount of meat compared to fat (which some people might say is bad but thats how I like it). They cut it extra thick and I'm not sure what they smoke it with but what ever it is its good. I only buy a half pound at a time because it spoils pretty quickly since there are no preservatives.

British or is it Scottish bacon is my favorite. thick cut (1/4") and much more meat than the standard American fare.

Had it for the first time for a breakfast meal onboard a British Airways hopper from Heathrow to Berlin.

The uncured thick cut bacon from Trader Joe's is pretty good, and consistently lean (compared to other brands).

Crossing wherever you are off my list to travel. I doubt I could be sure I'd get all of the contraband out of my vehicle before crossing. :)

On my last trip to big bend ranch state park we took Tyson precoocked bacon, it was way to easy to cook with hash browns on an isobutane backpacking stove and an aluminum pan. We had more bacon than eggs, because roads down there are rough and plastic egg holders don't work....

We like "FreeManDan" also take pre-cooked bacon (Appleton Farms). The one thing we really like about the pre-cooked product, you don't have to deal with all the excess grease.

Just made my first batch of smoked bacon from an incredibly good slab of belly. But to tell you the truth I actually prefer the raw fresh belly sliced about 3/8" thick...sprinkle sea salt and smoked paprika on both sides and slowly render it in a cast iron pan until nicely caramelized...to any bacon I've eaten heretofore.

I grew up eating a lot of the fresh side along with bacon. I love it fresh. Mom used to make it by coating it in flour and then sprinkling it with salt and pepper. I just use salt and pepper on it myself. I hadn't had any in a few years. I then started buying a pig or two each year from a couple of guys I work with and would get the fresh side instead of having it turned into bacon. Awesome stuff.

Oh yeah, fresh side-meat dredged in flour with salt and pepper. Haven't had that in years... mighty tasty with some milk gravy made from the rendered side-meat and biscuits, too! Hence my Lipitor at night and Tricor in the morning... :(

One of my wife's coworkers has a bunch of pork that they raised and are selling so I'm going to see if I can get myself some uncut and uncured bacon so I can cut my own extra thick.

I wouldn't even consider going on a trip without some bacon. Thick with coarse pepper:drool:..... It's just a camping staple I can't do without.

I have ordered bacon from smokedmeats.com they are located in Bishop, CA. Its without question my favorite and I have been known to purchase it for my own birthday present.

Here is my idea. You all have different favorites and I would be willing to test them for you, to find out what is the best out of all the favorites.
Yes, very simple. Send me your favorite bacon and once they are all in I will graciously test each one to find out which is the best. That will settle the whole bacon debate and we can all order the best bacon from that point forward.

A common meal for me whilst camping will be: One decent quality steak wrapped with bacon and pepper wrapped in foil and placed in the fire. I also like to wrap a potato and a whole sweet onion individually with foil and cook them in the fire too- just drop them right on in. I love BBQ sauce too, so I usually try a different one each time I cook this way.
