Like I posted in the gps section I figure I better start posting soon just to pay back for everything I am learning around here.
This is a link to my first gen install of a midland handheld cb using the dc charger and perm antenna. Then I switched out for the cobra handheld (much better) using the same antenna.
Lastly you will see my new ham rig. I used a comet dual band lip mount antenna and ran it up to the dash and a Yaesu VX-6R handheld. I wanted to start with the handheld since I do alot of hiking/ backpacking/ cub scout work and my 9 yr old wants to test for tech....which means he can have this radio and I can toss in the Yaesu 8900 quad band and use the same antenna (I hope....still new to all this).
all thoughts welcome,
enjoy

Very nice looking set up. I just got my tech license and a Yaesu VX-7 as well. I also just ordered a magnetic mount exterior antenna and a microphone to use on the road. I really like the way you mounted your HT to the dash-I need to figure out something similar. The blue CB mic really gives it a custom look!

Since you are new to amature radio (as I am) and you mentioned you enjoy hiking/backpacking, check out this thread:

I thought it was helpful and I programmed the frequencies mentioned.

Very nice Lance! That will be cool to see the quadband in your FJ when you get around to it. You mentioned mounting it under a single-DIN stereo - I would make sure it will be cool enough there. It will get pretty warm with the higher power and will need some decent air circulation.
