A buddy of mine is selling a D90, I believe its a '94 with the 5spd and ~90K. Kelly blue book says its worth about $30K. From what I have seen in the picts it appears to be in excellent condition. I'll see if I can dig up some picts.
Since I am a cruiser guy:oops: , does that sound about right you to you Rover guys? I am thinking about a potential purchase.

Also, it doesn't have a hard top...

Rare Rovers are very valuable, especially the Defenders, which are available in only small numbers. Exclusivity, performance and great looks make it expensive!

There seems to be huge regional differences when it comes to the pricing of D90s - really a supply and demand thing.
Personally, I think $30K is pretty high for a 94 with 90,000 miles. In the eastern USA, there have been many advertised for much less.

Man, you are entering into a hot topic:gunt:
If that D was at Copley Motors they would be asking much more than that.

Scott hit it on the head that the reason they are expensive is because they are a bit harder to get than a Jeep or Toyota, and since the newest NAS truck is now 10 years old, they are harder to find clean examples. If your buddies D has been maintained and is well cared for, it may be worth it to you. I've heard that the lower mileage trucks are not the best ones mechanically as they like to be driven and not sit around. 30K sounds a little high, but maybe by only 10 to 15%. I would say it really boils down to how good of shape it is in and what the PO has done. My PO was pretty meticulous, but I've still had to work through some problems with mine.
I came over to the dark side (pun intended with the Lucas Electronice:) from having owned 4 Cruisers. It's not an easy transition as there is nothing more reliable than a Cruiser, but man, I think the D's are way sexier:26_34_3:

This site is a wealth of information:

Caution, if you pose the question on that site of how much a truck is worth you will be flamed:REOutArchery02:

i just looked at a 97 d90 at the local dealer it was a hard top with 75,000 miles and they wanted $65k which I do not think it's worth but someone came in and bought it while I was there. it's all relative to what it's worth to someone if they want it they'll pay.

I think the 97 SW (station wagon- fancy British talk for hard top) command a slightly higher price than a 94 ST (soft top). With that said I'd sell mine to the first guy w/ 65K!!!

i hear that! i would love to have one but not at that price, maybe someday. until then i guess I'll stick with my jeeps
Yeah, Defender-mania is kinda goofy because they litter the road everywhere else in the world (DON'T get a UK magazine and look at the calssifieds in the back....it'll depress you).
I told my wife how much we could get if we cleaned up the 110 and put it on the market. She just kinda looked at me dumbfounded. It's a friggin station wagon with knobby tires!! But as mentioned, people pay those prices.
Looking around the country, you can probably find one cheaper than that if you put the leg work into it.

Thanks for all the responses!! Truthfully, one of our mutual friends is looking at buying it, but if he backs out, I might be there :chowtime: My biggest hurdle would be convincing the wife that this is a good idea... Also, the asking price is well below 30K, that is just the number I pulled quickly off of KBB.com.
I agree these are WAY sexier than cruisers, but there's a lot to be said for toyota reliability.

About 4 years ago I was looking for a diesel engined 4x4, and was looking at a nice local Land Cruiser HJ60. The seller couldn't make up his mind to sell, so in the meantime I chanced upon a listing for a 1986 110 diesel with only 70,000 kms on it. It was up in Goose Bay Labrador (look it up on the map!). Had been used for off-duty recreation by UK pilots at the NATO air force base there. A civilian model, LHD, station wagon. A few body dents, but nothing major, and in outstanding condition (mechanically, and zero rust). I bought it for $10,000 cdn (had to fly up there and drive it back across the wilds of Labrador and Quebec, a nice little road adventure in itself). Spent a couple of years equipping it for future "expeditions" until I realized that the money would be better spent paying down my mortgage. Sold it for around $16.5cdn to a guy who flew from Tofino BC (I live in Ottawa) and drove it back across Canada.
Seeing the prices of the NA Defenders makes me laugh, given the nature of the Defender/90/110 vehicle (ie. bare bones utilitarian vehicle), and as someone said, what they are worth elsewhere in the world. Supply and demand at work I suppose. Mine wasn't suitable for sale in the US or I could possibly have made a fair bit more money on it. In the end, I sold it for what I thought was a fair price, and assume the buyer was very happy with it.
Now, I'm back on the diesel Land Cruiser search! (after a brief excursion down the g-wagen path...)
Cheers.
