Well I thought I would start a build thread for my 2004.5 Dodge 2500 with a Cummins HO. First the engine upgrades already done. Quadzilla tow box and commander outlook monitor. Intake system and opened up exhaust.
Now for the expedition upgrades: ARB front bumper at stock height(pic 1)
Lorenz add a pack rear installed(pics 2&3) Finishing up the Lorenz 3" system with SAW 2.25 shocks and 37 MTR's on graphite H2's (pics 4&5)
That is where the truck sits now. My plans are to build some skid plates next, sliders, rear bumper with tire carrier, winch, drawer system for the bed, role and lock cover, and thule rack with roof top tent. This should be some fun.:gunt:

That thing looks sweet! Not sure that I would want black for a vehicle used on the trail, but I love your suspension and tire and rim combination. Any thoughts to adding a larger (or second) fuel tank for more range?

I was thinking about the fuel tank it already has the bigger OEM option that is about 33 gallons i believe but yes a bigger tank has crossed my mind but dont know if I will do it or not. and as for the black i know it is not the ideal color but I got it at such a good deal I bought it.

Well when you do the grease conversion you will have a second tank anyway... You are doing a grease conversion right?

I will most likely make bio but not ruling out a grease tank as well I also have not decided on that. too much to think about and too many ways to spend my money but I am calling about a bio kit today.

I can't believe you're rolling on 37s! They look puny on that beast. Nice truck. I'm really looking forward to your further build as I (gulp) would like to one day do something similar.

That is why I ran 37s if I ran anything smaller I do not think the truck would be nearly as capable.
I also did some work on the front skid today that should be finished up soon.

First off; don't take me the wrong way guys, but:
Why would you need a tank larger than 33 gallons?
I have a couple of friends with Dodges with Cummins turbo-diesels who are constantly bragging that they get better than 20mpg.....If that is true; they should be able to travel better than 600 miles on a tank.
So tell me the truth - What kind of mileage do you really get?
- around town?
- on the highway?
- off-road?
Also; being as Florida is flat and there is a town every few miles, it just doesn't seem as if range per tank would be very important there.....
This is NOT a flame :arabia: Just seeking some knowledge...:26_16_2:
- the desert dude where the distance between fuel stops really matters.

I can think of several reasons for added fuel capacity, particularly now when prices are so volatile.
- It allows you to fill up where the prices are lower
- If you travel to Mexico you won't have to risk getting dodgy fuel
- If you brew your own biodiesel at home you have greater range from your house
- Less need to stop on cross country trips
My dad has an '02 2WD dualie and gets around 20 MPG, but I wouldn't expect a truck on 37s to get the same mileage.

I do not know what mileage I am getting now but with my 33s on I was getting 18-19 mpg mixed mostly city though. I expect to get a bit less than that but not too much when I get the new gears in to get it back close to stock gearing. thats why you run your own bio so you pay very little per gallon but I may just carry extra fuel not go with a bigger tank

You should talk to mike ver at Lokey trucks and go SVO. It is alot easier to deal with and you can fuel up just about anywhere in the middle of the night LOL! that is unless you go in and get permission to raid the WVO tank outback. Most places say go ahead especially once they see your going to drive on it. It blows people away. On the run to baja last year we held up a few chinese food places with no issues.

Good thread .. since we have the same trucks!!
I've looked at all the bumpers options, I'm settled on an ARB too .. when I get the cash. And I really like the dark wheels. I'll have to paint my stockers.
About the extra tank. This would be the last mod I'd do. An extra 250+ lbs for that rare occasion when you'd NEED it is not worth it in my mind. The payload on these trucks is 2000#. Larger tires, skids, RTT, bumpers etc will eat it up pretty fast. Trucks drive better if they're not maxed out on payload.
and
I usually get 500+ miles per tank anyway (that means one fillup between Boulder, CO and California if planned right). My best is 702 miles a tank.

Okay, I have got an '06 3500 CTD. It sits on 35 inch tires on 19.5 steel wheels(140lbs per wheel) I run Biodiesel and I get good gas mileage.
Its my work truck: I drive around at about 5 mph all day long stopping frequently (I inspect trees on a huge coniferous tree farm) I do this all day and I got 17.6 mpg on my last tank, its 34 gallon tank.
On the highway: I get 21 + gpm when cruising on the highway at steady speed.
On the road with my 4000lbs caper on the back I have gotten as little as 13gpm and up to 20gpm. All in all I am really happy with it.
I wish I had a second tank...

The only way I am going to go with a second tank is when I go SVO which looks really good right now with gas prices.
Update on my truck: Gears get in today, front skidplate is done and will post some pics soon.

Did you switch to 4.10s?
Commericial front skid like this one from Defiant?
http://www.defianttruckproducts.com/display_part.php?prt=14
or homegrown?
You can also modify the powerwagon steering stabilizer skid for complete front end protection. I have a link somewhere on that.
I wish my truck had all this stuff I talk about ;-)

yes i switched to 4.10 got a really nice used set for cheap.

Neat truck man. I love those Cummins motors. Can't wait to see this progress, I'm a bit of a bio diesel fan as well.

Sounds like a cool build!! Pictures....
I am building a Biodiesel reactor now. About 1/2 done. Should be up and running in a few weeks. From my research and reading on SVO and Biodiesel, biodiesel is the way to go. I would have to agree on the bigger tank. My range is from 500 to 650 on 30 gallons. That's getting 17-21 mpg. Probable the same as you get. I would love the extra tank for my biodiesel trips far from home or filling up at the best price. Diesel prices can range all over the place, sometimes ranging as much as a dollar per gallon up or down and sometimes can be hard to find.
