Why do they toy with our emotions like that? Wish the Defender was coming here!!

And the sort of vehicles they should be marketing here - utility vehicles for people who will use the hell out of them, not rich poseurs who want more cupholders and will let the valet park them.
And for some reason, it seems they never will.
I want the crew cab in the logging sequence.

we tested the new 2.4 a while ago
a bit mixed feelings
on the plus side>
- fantastic engine with loads of torque and anti stal
- 6 gear manual box which is much quiter then before
on the minus
- ugly hood who can't cope the spare anymore
- ugly dashboard of a modern vehicle and loss of the airvent flaps
- too much of effort put in to make the interior like any other SUV to atract a broad audience and 90% of them are asphalt crawlers
I'm not tempted to trade in my TD5 for a new one.(yet :jumping: )

THe last thing we need is another over priced mall crawler. Put an airbog on them and sell them for what they are. Great Utility vehicles, something ford deosnt have. Make your money in volume sales, not markup.
For has a whole line up of SUV, escape, explorer, excursion, but no enclosed utility trucks.

Is it just me or does it remind you of a G-wagon?

i agree. they havent had a jeep style competitor since early 77'. theres absolutely nothing expensive in a defender. a base HT 90 at 24 grrr would sell like hotcakes, and all the guys that paid 45grr for one used would **** their pants.

I would be trading up VERY quickly!! I absolutely LOVE the double cab.....
Cost aside, even though the goverment won't allow them, could one leagally be brought here? Not that I could afford it, but it's fun to dream.
Man I love the double cab.

Update: Ford is selling Land Rover to Tata
Tata has lots of cash to invest and is the major player in India for trucks & SUVs. Of all the groups trying to buy LR, Tata is the one most likely to bring real Land Rovers to North America.
But considering design cycle times don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen. Just about everything that LR introduced since Ford purchased LR are designs set into motion by BMW. Unless Tata throws the existing under development designs away we will be seeing basically Ford designs for 5 to 7 years.
I'm wondering who owns the new diesel V8 & V6 designs. The engines are shared by Jag & LR, but they are built in a Ford engine plant, the development was paid for by Ford and Ford is planning to put versions of these engines into upcoming Ford trucks. I'm not positive but I think the 2.4L diesel in the new Defenders came from Volvo. The 6 speed gearboxes are Ford.
This is all part of the stuff that needs to be worked out in the sale. For a few years Ford sold Freelanders with BMW engines.

I can really understand where Landrover is coming from by not marketing it here in the U.S. Afterall, they wouldn't be able to sell a box shaped vehicle, like a jeep, with 4 doors, like a jeep, with factory lockers, like a jeep, and a super low range x-case, like a jeep, with hard and soft tops, like a jeep and aggressive mud tires, like a jeep, all mounted on solid axles, like a jeep. And golly gee....NO ONE wants a diesel here in the U.S. like jeep offers..........

Maybe the Freeloader came with a BMW engine, but it was mated to a POS gearbox (JATCO), which is made in France. I'm glad they got rid of the Freeloader with that single speed transfer. Now they got this other hunk of crap, the LR2 which is probably a decent street car, but isn't deserving of the green oval on the front in my opinion.
I wish they would bring those Defender 110's here. If the market got flooded with them, we could all afford one.

Yes, very, very sarcastic! I mean really, if they can ruin, I mean, reconstruct the dash with all that plastic then why couldn't they add the airbags while they were in there? Just another excuse not to sell the Defender here....

haha I figured as much.... Yeah what's the excuse on the air bags now? How ridiculous. Those things would sell like hot cakes over here. I love my Land Cruisers, but I also own a couple of Rovers and they are fun too.

I bought my Defender in Spain. http://www.autoplavic.com/nous_eng.php?marca=land
They ordered me a UK spec RHD 90 TD5, it was built in Solihul then shipped to Barcelona. We flew out and drove it back to the UK. It was $12,000 less than any UK dealer! Its a crazy world we live in.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could go back to "trucks" having taller tires without low profile sidewalls?!

new engine,
new transmission,
new seating,
new facia,
no airbags.
Sorry America. Can I interest you in an LR2?
Defenders were expensive before they would be expensive again.
Jeep=1 Land Rover=0
The real losers in the whole thing is us.....we know who we are.

I believe the diesel is from Peugeot, I'd confirm it but I'm too lazy to look it up.:archaeolo
