Hi, my 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, 4 door truck has daytime running lights and I would love to disable them. Does anyone know how to do this

Thanks
Bill

The quick & easy way is to pull the e-brake out one click, then put the vehicle into drive. Seems to work just fine. It shouldn't hurt the e-brake, but it just tricks the truck into thinking that it's engaged - thus not turning on the daytime running lights.

There is another method involving messing around with some wires, but I don't know how to do that...

The attached link has the TSB and additional pics on how to disable the DRLs. Disabling the Daytime Running Lights (3rd Gen) (http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/ducky_drl/ducky.htm). Hope this helps.

Do you mean the light on the dashboard? I guess it might burn out over time if you do it all the time.

Good resource. I might have to check that out. I've only used the trick I mentioned above a few times - like when people are spotting for me at night & I don't want to blind them w/ my daytime runners.

Personally I still have mine activated but before I retired from the AF I used to get some grief from my base's gate guards for having lights on as I approached for access. There must have been some feedback to Toyota from a lot of people to get a TSB published.

MicroSquish has conditioned me to really detest things that turn themselves on when I didn't ask for it to turn on and when I don't want it turned on.
