Fuel tank switch

Hi,

There doesn't seem to be any good solutions in the UK for a fuel tank switch, so wondering if anybody can recommend one?

I have a Land Rover 110 with the standard fuel (deisel) tank at the rear, and a extra 160 litre tank inside the 110 behind the internal baulkhead. Currently these are joined via a Land Rover Military switch. It is completely manual, and doesn't pump fuel at all, just allows the engine to draw fuel from what tank you open it to.

The trouble is it leaks quite badly and although I fixed it from leaking externally, it now leaks internally between the tanks.

Any recommendations?

The fuel pipes are the 'standard' Land Rover black plastic fuel lines found on deisel 110's.

Would an electrically actuated work better? Or too much to fail?

For a D90 300tdi over here we installed a NAPA parts fuel tank selector valve. I don't know the part number, but I can find it when I get back to the US next week. It is electric, requiring a 6 pole dual throw switch on the dash board. It had return lines (required for diesel) for each tank, and basically just switches fuel pick-up from one tank to the other using the fuel pump on the engine.

Seemed to be pretty reliable. We had to wire it into the ignition circuit, but that was easy. Worked a treat when all set up. If you are interested I can track it down and get more details.

The switch I mentioned is a solenoid ram type in moulded plastic. Does not come with a switch.

Available at most RV dealers. I'm not sure what brand it is. Also, notice it is motor driven, supposedly better than a solenoid ???
