We hit 50 members today... pretty cool. (and the 50th registrant just so happened to be my very good friend, and most excellent travel partner, Mr. Walter)
So, are there any suggestions for improvement on the site or forum? Any important subject catagories that I forgot to include? Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks again to all who registered. I hope to meet all of you someday on the trail less travelled

Now that Al is here, I think we have it all!
Well, everything except about $7000 worth of mods to my dodge.... :Wow1:

We should make your Dodge the 2006 Expedition Portal build vehicle. Run a series of articles, etc. :lurk:

That could be a possibility Scott. We'll have to talk about it sometime once you get settled into the new house and can get away for a weekend trip of some sort (you have lots of rocks to climb, or nearby lakes to check out, or roads to explore, or.....)

Sounds good. Then we can do a 2000 Frontier Crew Cab! :shakin:

Good idea :D .
As soon as I get moved into the new house, I do want to have a feature vehicle article on your truck. That would be very cool!

We need a for sale/trade section so we can pass on equipment that we no longer need to someone else who is looking for a deal....
For example, I have a nicely set up '03 jeep wrangler rubicon that I want to sell, preferrably to someone who will at least let it see the dirt on occasion. I hate to think about it living life as a mall crawler. :(

:smilies27  Are you pulling a Scotty? Though I completely understand. You will sell the Jeep, and outfit the Ram for expedition and adventure travel. You also realize that the Jeep is silver, which is causing deep resentment towards the vehicle, and you see no other choice but to sell it... :p

I am up for it. I just need another moderator to second the decision, and I will put it in the forum. I think it would be valuable if restricted to expedition equipment and similar.

Well, the money generated from the sale of the jeep will primarily fund the build of a different, slightly *bigger* jeep. There will be some money diverted into the Dodge though. Transmission work, tires, shell of some sort...but I plan on spending ~ 12K on the new (old) jeep.
The sale/trade section should definately be kept within the scope of this site. There is no need for a catch all classified section here, there are plenty of those around the internet. If you need help keeping it under control, let me know.

On NOR we have vendor's forums where they can post new equipment, troubleshoot problems and answer questions. Might be something to consider as EP grows.
We've made it extremely clear that bashing of vendors and talking about competitors gear is strictly prohibitied.

Good point on the vendor bashing. This is not a forum where rants of any kind are appropriate (intelligent and respectful, yet heated debate though...). I doubt it will be a problem, as expedition travelers typically represent a different demographic than most OHV groups. Having the resources to build an expedition truck, and take weeks or months off work is unique. But you never know who might troll through here :smilies27
A few vendors have already expressed interest in supporting Exp. Portal, so we may see an unobtrusive sponsorship presence in the near future to help cover the domain and hosting costs. Any additional funds will go for training of the site editors (like Tread Lightly Master Trainer classes for Jonathan Hanson, BajaTaco, etc.), support of conservation groups (that are sensitive to the OHV traveler), and support of Exp. Portal adventures.

Already talked to some of my fellow Nissans 'bout the site. We may try and plan a multi-day expedition to Big Bend. One of them went out last year with his wife and they didn't scratch the surface in four days.
This sounds like a growing place and am proud to be a member.

50 members!
Ha! That's great!
We're at 4500 now and growing. I used to greet newbie's but no way I can do THAT any more!
Nice thing here on ExPo is that most newbie's do get greeted by other members.
Here's to "infinity and beyond!"

At a traffic light in LA on Sunday afternoon on the way back from trader Joe's i was asked about the safety devices rack on my RR. Cut a long story short, he is back from South America where he was on the production team for Survivor and has driven his current vehicle from the US to Costa Rica, interesting web site with pics etc. Turns out he was looking to buy a P38, so of course i mentioned Expedition Portal with reference to the LR forum and the "should i buy a range rover", calls me last night because he found a G4 for $17k, so i suggested the LR forum "G4 or XD".
From the last e-mail, he has tried registering and once authorized will be posting soon, "should i buy an LR ?"

After a while lurking feels sorta dirty... ...like, join already and be honest about it all.
I feel better now.
