Post up your campsite pics!

This is Yosh's first time out camping in America. She couldn't find the fascination behind going out and sitting in the dirt.. when she came from her country where people lived out in the dirt. She thought us americans were silly! Now she's just as addicted as me! She no longer wears the funny socks with sandals! She also doesn't need a campground with facilities, she can do primitive camping. I've broken her in bigtime! Or ruined her! However you wanna look at it! All within 1 year of camping!

It's a King Kamper Trailer from Australia. They began importing them to the US a few years ago. I picked this one up last Jan. It's rugged with independant suspension and flexible set up options with all the comforts of home.:)

Your right...you probably don't want to know. It's a big investment but for my intrests in doing a lot of remote camping and getting my wife back into it again with the required comforts (I enjoy them too), the investment was worth it for us. It keeps me away from the general RVs that can't get into the back country.

Some folks have been able to find used ones in the US to get a better price. You would have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands. :wings:

My parents wedding gift from my grandpa 30 + years ago was a 6 man Springbar. We used the crap out of it until fairly recently, and gave it to a scout troop. We replaced it with the 4 man there. I love the Springbars. I actually worked for the company for awhile, saw the factory and sold a bunch of them. People have a hard time swallowing the price tag, but I have never seen one returned.

With a Land Rover Dormobile, home is where you pop the top

http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/LR.images/KaneCreekcamp.JPG
Here home is in Kane Creek canyon, Moab. One of my favorite places to stay when I'm in town. One of the nice things about a self contained camper is that when I leave a camp site the only trace of me ever camping there is the tyre tracks and maybe a little wet ground from gray water (yes there is a porta pottie aboard too)

http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/snapshots/snaps/MontBGND.jpg
Here home is in Montana North of Yellowstone

http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/snapshots/snaps/GRspiderRock.jpg
Here home is at the bottom of Canyon de Chilly near the base of Spider Rock

The nice thing about traveling in an RV is that I can go from driving on the trail to camp set up completed within one minute and within 5 minutes have camp set up, a nice fresh dinner salad made, glass of wine poured and dinner started

This is my buddy Mike. We were at Bass Lake, Ca with a group of 30+ friends. Towards the end of the night he decides to run through camp in this outfit. It was pitch-black except for the dim light of our campfires. Grown men were screaming like little girls (myself included). To this day it remains one of the scariest and, later, most funny experiences I've ever had. Fortunately, there were only adults present. Can you imagine the effect this would've had on a kid out for their first camp trip?

Aren't the Catalina's the site of that crashed B-17? Navigator had them south of the peak in the dark and they hit it nearly blind.

4 days/night in the mountains moving around a bit, with pretty much only what you see plus a few traps, an a wool blanket. Out chasing high country mulies and whitetails. Camera on a stump for a tripod. headed back out thurs eve after all the celebrations have ended and come back again monday morning. Expecting 8-12 inches of fresh snow by weekend....its gonna be great!

http://outtasightcustomcamo.net/resources/lean+to+lg.JPG

Took a few dried potatoes and onions, some parched corn, dried /smoked meat, salt, coffee, and BV, everything else we found up there for supper's.
A few bear berries, rose hip teas for warmers,

Used two mil ponchos ended up being way to big, was trying to find the "just right size" of some either duck or russia cloth canvas to make my mountain shelter out of. Decided that 9x9 will be perfect for size, pack rolling, and weight. Ordered the matierials this am. too bad wont be sewn and ready for this coming weekend,,,

Sunrise at the start of Buffelspoort, a canyon that was the scene of a tragic flood in 1981 when a whole town was washed away. The first pic is looking away from the "Poort". The hills in the distance were the site of a battle during the Anglo-Boer war. There are some derelict building there.

The Boers secretly came up the "Poort" to attack Laingsburg (the town that was later flooded). It wasn't common knowledge at the time that the "Poort" was passable. They camped at the buildings at the hill up ahead. The British got wind of this and laid an ambush during the night.

Pic 3 is the evening sleep over before tackling the trail. We had driven through a snow storm to get there but the skies were clear at the campsite. Minus 6 degrees celcius. Note the coals under the camp chairs.

Yipers, I was extremely fortunate to be able to spend one or more nights at each. Normally not the case in the snow pics. Alaska, Mendenhall Glacier and the tent is used as an emergency shelter for ice climbers.:wings: :wings:

Yes, thank you so much for the Toy van pictures!!!! And the web link for ToyotaVanPeople, read your post throughly. Big fan, I had a 1984 Toyota Van, purchased new and had a huge lump in my throat years later selling it with 384,000 km on it - all mine. Only vehicle I was emotional about selling. Was a 5 speed cargo van, after 3-4 years I did my interior in denim; wish I could dig up a picture to scan in. Most Toy Vans in BC, Canada have died due to rust, not mechanical failure, so we get our Van's (self) imported from Japan. The Mitsubishi's and Toyota's imported from Japan have the same platform as yours.

Cheers

A older lady we ran into back in October at PSR in Panamint Valley. She was from overseas and heading down to Baja. She had driven all the way from the east coast. Really shows what it's all about, all she needs is her tent, stove and some peaceful scenery. The tent was just as old as she was. We wished her on a safe trip and headed on our way.

At one time this was one of my favorite camping spots for years. From my front door only 33 miles, very private required crossing the river twice to get there. And then two years ago I was there and had not crossed the river yet. Out of nowhere the river started to rise rapidly as I watched a violent wall of water rip my spot away, trees and all. If I would of crossed the river my 80 would have been washed away with no chance of getting to the other side and saving it. Someone was watching over me that day. Later I found out that the forest service opened the dam above.

Good deal...I hear you on the winter, it has snowed like hell here this last 24 hours. I am sitting in the cafeteria with students as they have delayed the opening of the school 2 hours...

I went out to that spot last fall and there was a sign stating no camping...I was sad. I liked it being my 'secret' little area.

The exposure was over a minute. It gave me time to fire the shot and stand in the back. Yes, I'm blurry. The box did a much better job at standing still.

Camped in the Sam Houston National Forest along Lake Conroe. If anyone is in the area I can show you a few spots that are very hard to get to and well worth the drive.

Yeah, my lab is not exactly "guide dog" material, but she has learned a lot from the Schnauzer, mostly how to open doors, open the trash and recycling cans, and how to eat litter box "treats" from our cat.

They are great dogs!
