The National Guard are training in the area now, and I've seen a med duty cabover 4 wheel drive truck being used. I don't recognize it. Anyone have an idea what it is? Sorry no pictures. - Brad

Sorry no pictures. - BradFMTV-built by Stewart & Stephenson. It was a competitor to the truck that Joaquin Suave has, which was built by Tactical Truck Corp, a joint venture between GM/MVO and BMY/Harsco in the late 1980s.

S&S Military(now part of Armor Holdings, which also bought up TTC years ago) also built or builds now a civilian version, if I remember correctly.

Thanks Bob, but this vehicle appeared to be lighter than the 2.5 ton FMTV. I have seen the 6X6 FMTV's before, and was not aware they made a smaller version, but these didn't appear to have the cross mounted engine. I did see 2 configurations, a canvas covered truck and probably a communications van. Both were in convoys so I did not get a good look at them. - Brad

Cross mounted engine??? I am not sure what you mean, sorry. That brochure link has all the 4x4 models used currently....FYI.

First glance I thought the engine might be mounted cross wise behind the cab. I did not notice anything behind the cabs on the units I saw. The 2 1/2 tons look to be a capable unit. I haven't seen them before. The 5 tons I have seen with the local engineer units. Quite a change from the American Generals when I was in. - Brad

I did get to see some other units and they were the FMTV's. I had not seen the 4 wheel version before. Thanks for the info. I had seen the "bad boys" brochure also, but had not put the two together. - Brad
