I finally got the lid finished, and got the tent installed on my M416. I have some finish work to do tomorrow, but it's almost there! Here's a pic, sorry about the quality I'll get some better shots tomorrow. Oooh I'm so excited!!!!:wings:

Is that the 1.8m Overland? Thats the size I currently have and am interested in a similar M101 or M416 trailer, so I was just wondering if its the same size for a perspective.

LJRockstar

Yes it's the 1.8. It almost covers the entire top of the M416. There is just enough room to mount a single mtn bike next to it on the Thule rack. The older WWII vintage trailers are narrower than the M416 (Not by much) so you probably won't be able to fit anything else up there.

I am mounting the sand ladders underneath the tent on the passenger side and I got a small fishing rod holder that mounts underneath on the drivers side.

I am gonna run over to my local McMaster-Carr today to pick up the last of the little hardware pieces than I'll take some more detailed pics. they should be up this evening.

How are these with bugs? Mosquito's and such? I noticed that the screen door doesn't really have any way to seal it up at the bottom. should I just tuck it under the mattress?

I haven't even been inside it yet :( This weekend a few friends and I are going to camp out somewhere local, just to see how everything works. I have so much new gear so I need to try it all out before I'm reading instructions in the middle of the night in pouring rain!

actually, there is a flap under the mattress (probably) that you can zip the bottom portion of the screen to. Should solve most of the bug problem.

You'll dig the tent, we love ours!

I just tucked it in at the bottom, the screen did not have a zipper across the bottom. The roof just lays across the bow were the screen is so in a light wind it can cause a gap if you have the awning up.

One warning though, if you expect any moderate to high winds do not leave the awnings up, they act like big sails. We got caught in some unexpected wind in UT that caused one of the 2 screws that holds the pivot bracket on each side pull through. I'm going back with machine screws so I can have a nut and washer on the inside of that tube that will not pull through. Also if there is going to be some moderate to strong wind anchor the ladder down. I used one of my water cans and its tie down strap ran around one of the rungs of the ladder.

We had some high winds with what i think were some 60 mph gusts while on the white rim trail, the trailer rocked and swayed some but I prefer to be in the overland than any ground type tent.

With a little practice setup and break down is quick. About 5 min to setup and 10 to 15 to fold and pack up. When we pulled into one place I was already setup and working on dinner when the other couple my son and I were with were still setting up their ground tent, and they started before we did.

You will love it and be prepared, depending on where you setup camp to have people ask about your setup.

So I finally got my camera out to the garrage today. I took some pics of the whole setup with it's fresh coat of flat black! I took it out for a test drive today, it pulls really nice. Hardly notice it's back there. Except for the sluggish acceleration :D. It sit's perfectly level with the Jeep I love it!

That is one sweet setup!

Offtopic... what brand tires are you running and how do you like their performance in each of the following: mud, rocks, sand, etc?

LJRockstar
06-23-2007, 12:14 AM
They are Nitto Mud Grapplers, They are GREAT on the rocks, GOOD in the mud, and I haven't had them in the sand yet but I would imagine them being pretty good. They are very loud on the highway, but I usually wear earplugs when I'm on the highway.

yes that was a great day , the van was freaking awesome on the rock pile. I got a kick out of the fact that the van pretty much walked over the entire pile and the F-350 on 40's couldn't make it through the rock garden at the bottom.

I got to sit in the brute too so that made be as happy as my two year on the air jumper they had!

I loved your truck too , first thing I saw was the fridge in the back! And it's Same color as my LJ!

Nice to meet a follow expo member so local and actually on the east coast, when I get one of my pieces up and running we should do a run somewhere local.

Did a little dry run last night, Just to see how everything works, So I snapped a few pics. it was funny, I had no intention of actually sleeping in it last night but after yapping with friends till like 1:30 am I decided that I didn't want to break everything down so I camped out in the yard! Felt like I was 12 again! :jumping:

I did notice, that the mattress left a little to be desired. I sleep on my side mostly, and by about 3:30 my shoulder was KILLING ME! any fellow Overland owners have suggestions for mattress improvments? fire away!:)

Ok here's the pics.

Thank's! No that is not my yard, It is a friends Hay field shortly after being bailed. They live in the middle of about 2 dozen Horse farms. They get some kind of tax break for using it for "Cultivation" or just not doing anything with it till mid june every year! :)

Rezarf <><

They are "Lid Lights" They're supposed to be mounted in the top of one of those Thule Roof boxes, the solar panels charge a battery and when I open the lid, there is a motion switch that turns on some LED's the bigger one in the center is an exhaust fan to keep things cool durring the day.
