There is an RV dealer just north of San Antonio that had some very similar to those a few years back. As I recall they seemed to stay there for quite a while before disappearing.
Nice looking touring rigs as long as you don't venture too far off the pavement.

Oddities indeed. They are 4WD, so I guess they'd fit more into the easy dirt road just beyond the RV park more than anything. But I bet they'd fit into the overland traveling role OK.
