I'd say it is worth a look for sure. Retail on the 1654 is $430.00

The only difference between the 1654 and the 1650 is tha the 1654 features an additional padded compartment devider. great for camera gear.

I didn't compare all models, but the Pelican 1600 (with foam) is $110 at www.casesforless.com and $139.95 at Pangea.
They will also do better still for multiple buys, last yeat I got 3 1600,s for $98ea including foam.

I bought a 1650 used off eBay several years ago- it has a removable bag with dividers inside of it. I want to say I paid just under $100 for it with a couple of scratches on it.

I bought it to carry my gear on my boat but since I sold the boat I had been thinking about selling the case- let me think about it and I may sell it. I've been trying to pare down the camera gear too since I don't seem to use most of it anymore.

FWIW, I saw a ton of these at Fry's Electronics in sizes from tiny to huge. I have no idea if the pricing was any good, but just an FYI.

In my neck 'o the woods, Fry's prices on Pelican stuff are a bit steeper than what you'll find online from Pangaea or Expedition Exchange (even with shipping factored in.)

Baja, I was pretty excited when I first saw them at Fry's as well, then I saw the price. However, it gave me the chance to touch, feel, manipulate, etc. and this confirmed my desire to get a few. That's definitely worth the trip IMO.
