We are in the process of helping out a colleague who has broken down while on an overland trip from London to Beijing via the legendary Silk Road route. We have sourced and shipped parts to a contact in Bishkek for him already. What we need help with is identifying a reputable garage with welding equipment and an English speaking translator in Bishkek. Please PM me if you have any potential contacts that can help. Thanks.

As a community, I am sure there is something we can do to assist.

I am pursuing my contacts in Russia and will advise.

You might try contacting the closest US embassy for help with the language. They may even have refrences for labor. Good Luck!

Weird, I was stationed there briefly... I know there is a base there and I didn't keep in touch with anyone there but I know with a little research they will know of some reputible garages around the local area.

The taxi drivers we had spoke english very well and they hung out around the base entrance If your source can get there it may be a good place to start.

Good luck!

I have a very good friend who is a die hard land cruiser fanatic and excellent mechanic (and welder) who is there. He has only been there a couple days out of a 2.5 year stint for the Peace Corps. His name is Brian Steen and his email is steen.wy "at" gmail.com

Hopefully he can help you out... Sorry I do not have a phone number that works there yet...

Thanks to all who have sent me leads. I have followed up on all of them and am awaiting responses. Unfortunately Silk Road Tours at info@silkoffroad.kz as well as addresses other addresses ending in .kz & .kg keep bouncing back despite sending my messages via both my .net & .com e-mail. Any thoughts?

I just wanted to take the time to thank everybody on ExPo who answered the call. With your help, we were able to get parts sent and locate a garage in Bishkek that could read prints and make the repairs. Our friend should be back on the Silk Road in a couple of days, onwards to Beijing.

:wings: ExPo, YOU ROCK! :wings:
