Just moved to Florida and am getting out of the pool and into the ocean for my swimming workouts. Just wondering if there are others on here to share some training notes, etc.

I have a 3 mile race coming up in January in Tampa Bay.

I don't swim, but my 13-yr old swims out in the open ocean as a junior guard during her summer break. And often times she's doing some pier to pier swim stuff. Fun stuff.

Yeah, cold California coast water. :)

Watch out for boats! Probably best to have someone trail you in a kayak or something. Once the water warms up a little I MIT be down for some open water swims, I am training for IM FL so I am always active. Where in Tampa are you? I live in the USF area. You could hug the beach pretty close.

I live in Tampa and have on occasion done some shore diving and I will agree with exploreFL, hug the beach or have someone in a kayak trail you. The boaters around this state seem to have little concern with running right next to swimmers or divers at full throttle.
