Updated as of 1/2/12

Running boards removed
Bud built front skid installed
Had the P0420 error code pop up on me so the rear O2 sensor got replaced and I cleared the code. Fingers crossed that it doesn't come back.

After crawling around the underside of it for the past 2 days I haven't been able to spot any rust and the underside shows to signs of it ever being offroad.

Gotta thank Rockware (they have a nice buggie they used at the KOH) in Colorado Springs for welding on the sliders this morning.

Next up will be to get a tune-up and find out where the metal on metal sound is now coming from when I turn (I'm think it's getting from the drivers side front wheel).

Small updates -

Tundra brake upgrade (231mm) has been complted thanks to Armorology.

Going to be doing the Andy MOD when I do the rear axle swap so I did some searching and picked up the 'trac off' switch from a 97 Toyota Camry (I don't think I've seen anyone use this switch before).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/tbox/BtQ6uzCGkKGrHqIH-CgEvpz7PqoBL7LlY44u_12.jpg

I'm playing with a few idea where to install the switch:

1) in the factory knock-out (fits just fine).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/tbox/P1060053.jpg

2)Under the radio in the little cubby.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/tbox/P1060056.jpg

I'm partial to second one since I'm toying with installing the rear locker switch there and possible moving the 'center diff lock switch' to this location as well and just make up a custom switch panel.

Current state of the elocker axle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/tbox/P1060044.jpg

An impact driver made quick work of the disassembling everything and saved me from doing more damage to my shoulder. Hopefully, in the next week or so I'll have it all cleaned-up ready for paint.

Waiting to be installed:

Front O2 sensor
Fuel Filter
Kenwood radio - I cant stand the current one that's in it.
Slee elocker control box

On order
New drivers sideview mirror - the current one rattles like crazy. There's something broken in the pivot point and it drives me up the wall. I already replaced the passenger side mirror due to this as well but it sound like it was about to fall off going over any bump in the road.
Drivers side door molding

Version 2 with the 100 series LC rear locker dial

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/tbox/P1060668.jpg

The (2) blanks will be filled in with the 'trac off' button and with the center diff lock switch. Jed at Armorology was able to recess the locker dial so it would sit flush or close to it. The other (2) will be slightly raised since there really wouldn't be enough material left to hold the switches in place.

Did you ever get a 90* connector for your CB? If not, you should just run it through the cig lighter spot or one of the ones just below it (can see an empty one in your 2nd pic). I have the same CB and ran it through my cig lighter spot on my 2002 4Runner. Worked freaking perfect since there were extra ones right below anyway.

Just a thought anyway.

Rig is looking good man. Getting close to back where you were before you flipped your old one.

A set of spider trax spacers will be making their way to my door.

Got the Lightforce lights installed and wired up tonight and but I got to figure out why the fog light switch light stays on.

ttora4runner
06-23-2013, 07:52 PM
Ran into a hiccup with the wiring and I'm kind of stump on this.

Using the Toyota rocker style switch like I used in my old 4runner.

So last night I complete the wiring and get the lights working and go out for a little drive to grab a drink. When I get back to my place I flip the switch to make sure none of the connectors had come lose. I go to flip the switch and I get jack so I figured Iíd check the wiring. Sure enough I didnít have two of the connectors crimp enough so they came lose. I go ahead and disconnect the wiring from the battery to reconnect the two wires that had come lose and go to reconnect the wiring back to the battery only to get sparks.

Iíve gone back though checked all the connectors, checked for any frayed/damaged wires and check the grounds and found no problems. So whatís going on here?

This is the switch that Iím using and one of the write-ups that Iím using along with the Lightforce wiring diagram: http://www.sonoransteel.com/includes/templates/SonoranSteel/TechArticles/ToyotaOEMFogLightSwitch.pdf
The brown wire in the light force harness I have tied in with the yellow wire at the battery and then ran to the middle prong with the black/red wire connected to the bottom prong with the ground being at the top and grounded to the firewall.

In my last 4runner I had it wired the same way and didnít have this problem.

Finally got the tire carrier for the CBI rear bumper the other day but there's a slight issue.

Something doesn't look quite right here: :frusty:

You know that saying measure twice cut once. Well, in this case it was measure 4x's (paranoid) install once and still apparently, I can't read a tape measure.

Measured from the center of the spindle to the center of the bolt hole and everything looked fine. Once I got the carrier on (a chore in itself) the holes don't line up. On top of that the holes for the hub cover don't even line up.:boom:

A little frustrated at the moment to say the least. Gonna get a hold of CBI first Monday and see what can be done.

Nice build so far. Love the bumper choices. Hope you get the tire carrier sorted out. Will it be at all easy to remove and reinstall the rear carrier? Reason I ask is that our 4R is also the wife's DD, I'd like a rear bumper but the swing out carrier won't work for the 355 days of the year she needs easy access to the hatch!

One of the guys at work enlarged the hole for the latch handle as well as doing a little grinding on the holes for the spindle cover to get the bolts holes to line up properly. So far I haven't noticed any rattles. I still need to put some lug nuts on the spare as well as the chain.

I still need to change out to proper size and pick up another Baja Tacoma rim but that will have to wait for a bit.

No updates, just using my 4runner as I built her for.

Taken in Nevada yesterday.

Very nice build. I love those rims. Question about the CB, do you like it? I like that it's all in one and you don't have to have the huge box to mount in the dash.

that is a near-PERFECT truck. Love it! Well done!

After having the rear tire carrier for almost a year know I kind of find having it to be more of pain having to swing it open to get into back of the 4runner or just trying to get the rear tire off of it (probable given myself a hernia from being a light weight).

Thinking about having the bumper modified so I can put the spare back underneath and having a different swing arm built to accommodate a couple of gas/water cans instead that way I can remove it when not needed.

Or maybe see if CBI or Shrockworks could build me a different bumper and just sell the one I currently have.

Granted I'd loose the cool factor of having the tire on the back but I'd just think it be more functional for me.

In no rush got few months to think about it since I'll be back in Colorado working and the 4runner will be in storage.

Ya, I like. Just wish I would've mounted it in a different since it gets in the way a little.

Been stuck in Colorado Springs for the past few months on a construction project with a company truck and no 4runner so my ability to explore the back country has been limited this summer. Which is a bummer.

The past weekend when I was home on my monthly trip I picked up some new rims for my 4runner.

Hopefully, the next time I'm home the old girl will final see some trail time.

Anyone within the Utah region with a 3rd gen 4runner with limited/sport style flares interested in a rear CBI bumper?

Looking at having CBI build me a different one so the spare can go underneath.

I wish Texas and Utah were closer. I would love to take that cbi. I'm interested to see what you replace it with.

Another CBI but I'll be any to fit the spare back underneath and the swing away will be able to carry a couple of jerry cans.

Thanks. I was going to pick up a set of black ones but they sold about a week before I got back to Utah.

My current CBI rear bumper will be up for sale at the end of next month, if anyone is interested.

Came close to selling my 4runner yesterday for a 07 Lexus GX470 but just couldn't do it. The GX is a nice vehicle but my 4runner still fits my needs a little better.

I ditched the tire carrier swing arm in favor of carrying two jerry in cans in back. I'll be running a smaller spare and be carrying a plug kit on road trips.
