I have an original tent that fits a VW Bus and actually attaches. It is in great shape and passed through family members years ago to me. It sits and has hardly ever been used, great ondition. The only reason I mention it is if anyone has a VW and wants an original tent, from VW, let me know. I will make a great deal to someone on here or their friend. Drop me a pm.

Below is a stock photo but an exact duplacate, colors and all.

Ohhh, that even looks like my '78 Westy. You're out west right (I'm in SC)? I'd love to buy it, but those things weigh a ton and shipping would probably kill me.

Hmmm, any rough ideas on how much it would cost to ship to SC (29206)?

Those tents are incredibly heavy (being waxed canvas and galvanized metal poles), but they last forever and look sooo cool at the VW bus campouts.

Man, if I had a Westy and something like this came up, I would figure out a way to get it. I figure you'll forget the cost soon enough. Dieses ist sehr kühl!

I honestly have no idea about shipping, sorry. Just check a web site or something I'm sure you can get a quote somehow. (I'm 92119). Yes these things are made to last that is for sure. I can not imagine this product coming up on the market all that often? Their can not be many of these things left anymore? Just my thoughts. I figured I would offer it to someone on here before I advertise it to public. Let me know.

Not sure what dimension and weight we're talking here, but at a place I used to work we would ship fairly heavy stuff using a company called Forward Air. We're talking stuff that was wood crated that would end up about 200 or 300 lbs, certainly bigger than UPS would handle but not full on truck loads. It was pretty reasonable if you do dock-to-dock (IOW, you pick it up at their terminal). Airlines also have a cargo service that is decent. There are options!

How much?

Will attach to a newer Westy? like a mid-late 80's?

I recently shipped a very large box containing surfboards cross country on Amtrak; It cost me less then $60 and it only took about a week. The receiver said the box looked like it hadn't even been handled.
I know they have a length and weight limit but don't remember what it is.

Try getting a quote through Unishippers http://www.unishippers.com/

You will need to know the weight and size of the shipment. The truck code for a tent is 70. With that and a start and finish location you should be able to get a quote together.

It is cheaper to ship terminal to terminal rather than residence to residence.

Good luck.

Do it!!!
Those things are sooo cool! I had one, different style, for a 65' bus.
I would take it, but I would have to buy a bus to with it...:costumed-smiley-007

:shakin:

Oh, so you're in San Carlos? I am just across the 8. SDSU.

Yup just under Cowles MTN. you know the one that burned yesterday!!

I have seen you post and figured you were close. Good to know.

I'm not sure it would or would not fit on a newer Westie, they have a flap that fits under the open side door, like a sock all around the door, so that stays open when you are using the tent, I'm sure others have more info than me about the tent.

Someone asked how much...I don't know I'm open to any offers. I really do not know what they are worth or going for if they are even out there?? I have a trailer and have not used it for a bunch of years. Now I'm leaning toward a tent for the top of the DII so I figured I would see if there was interest with someone, they could be happy I thought.

They attach to the rain gutter so yes, it will hook to a Vanagon (it won't have the groovy seventies look though :wings: ).

I shipped a set of tires and wheels using Forward Air for $90 from Cleveland to Cincinnati. Their dock was close to the airport and it took about 3 weeks for I wasn't in a hurry.
I'm going to north Enid, OK. in October and could bring it back east = not really sure how that helps, if it can't make it to Oklahoma, but I thought I would throw that out there.

I use freight quote,I shipped 4x14.5 mog tires and rims, about 1200 pounds on a single palette from Montana to Socal for $200, it was shipped commercial dock to dock and the transit time was only 2 days.
