Hello,

I will be in Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan in March of 2008 visiting my in-laws. Looking for anyone with a rig that might want to take me on a day trip into the jungle.

Anyone from Malaysia on the board?

I'm no help with a 4x4, but am interested in your trip as my sister-in-law will be moving there in two months for a two-year stint (Foreign Service) and we're hoping to go.

Do you know what area she will be in? And, if you visit are you going to travel throughout Malaysia?

My best advice is to go hungury! I would dare to say that Malaysia has the best mix of food on earth. I have been there at least a half dozen times and if my wife decided she wanted to move back there, I would be there in an instant. It's very easy to get by in Malaysia, as most people in the cities speak English.

Get me some details about where you will be going and I might be able to lead you to some good food!

She'll be in Kuala Lumpur. Right now it is a dream to go, cost and two kids (5 and 3) make it a challenge. It would probably closer to the end of her two years so the kids are a little older, but your report makes me want to go even more. I've been to Thailand and Vietnam and absolutely loved both, especially Vietnam. The people and food were both incredible.

Ahh, so you are sort of used to the 20+ hour flights....

Last time I went my daughter was 1, lets just say the flight was an adventure...(She will be just about 3.5 this time)....However, now I have another baby girl who will be just about 2...

Yeah really looking forward to flying with the two-hellcats (thats their nicknames)

Chris,

I have a fully rigged diesel Toyota Land Cruiser Prado sitting in Malaysia, lonely and waiting to be used. We set it up for our big trip around SE Asia in 2004, and have mainly used it for weekend stints ever since.

It's not in KL, but near Johor Bahru.

I'd be happy to 'loan' it to you for your stay if you're interested in taking a trip around some of the beautiful rainforests in the country.

I'd highly recommend heading up to the Cameron Highlands, and then visiting some of the more romote Orang Asli indigenous villages. Also great if you have the time, is to head to the east coast and down to some of the national parks like Endau Rompin. There's amazing forest, fishing, trails, camping.

One of the most beautiful places on the planet. I can't believe my truck is just sitting there... we've been in San Francisco for the past year on a project and so the Land Cruiser's just sitting there... :-(

We'll be back before March, but contact me by email closer to your trip if you're interested.

Cheers,
Jay.

There is an active Land Rover club in Malaysia that I contacted when I was there in December. They were very helpful. www.lrom.com

Malaysia is an awesome place. The rainforest challenge was going on while I was there so I was able to check out some very interesting trucks.

Enjoy your trip.

Sorry to hijack your thread...But any idea what the weather would be like in the Panag area around August?
We "might" be going for a Dragon Boat race...

Thanks

:yikes: You have to be one super nice guy !!!!!

My visit to KL was leave Melbourne in July work at RHB for two weeks, winter to summer was hell for the first couple of days with no AC.

Just don't run over the crazy people on scooters, I never got out of town however.
