There are a few aftermarket headers out there. Stick with 2 1/4" exhaust pipe after the header, bigger will only cost you low end torque with not much to gain on the top end. Take a look underneath it . . .you could almost put together an exhaust using only straight sections of pipe (until you get to the part after the muffler) - your local exhaust shop should be able to put something together for you. I've been running a Delta50 muffler and it's nice enough around town and not overly loud or annoying on the highway.

Here's a good thread about making reasonable power with a 22RE (LINK (http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=820891&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1))
In that thread they recommend the factory header and down-pipe, then 2in cat and pipe to the muffler with 2.25 out of the muffler.
I used this setup on my truck and did notice a difference. I would not add a header unless you are going to be in high rpm ranges. I had a LC engineering header on my truck and I don't recall much of a difference, but I did have issues with the bolts loosening. This was on an 85 pickup with a 22R.
