Tacoma power steering pump

This weekend while out running around, I noticed that the pump is beginning to whine like a jeep power steering pump and at times it feels like it the steering gets a little stiff. At 171,000 miles I guess it is time for another power steering pump? What has been everyone's experience with the life of a power steering pump on 1st. gen tacoams? Also any recommendations on the replacement manufacture?

I don't want to be the one who mentions the obvious. But you checked the fluid level right? My first gen had close to 200k and was on the original pump AFAIK.

Yep, did that first. Plenty of fluid and had the system flushed early in the spring when I got the truck.

I've replaced a few 5VZ pumps in the range of 150k (lots of offroad miles with oversized tires) and 200k, none had failed completely but were seemingly low on power and making the obvious while. I'll know mine is bad when I can hear it over the SC. :D
