It's been a work in progress for quite some time and it's now just starting to come around.

After writing off my 06' Tacoma in March of 2010 I decided a 3rd Gen 4Runner would fit the bill as a capable replacement. Hence the Pt II. As with any build, the mods will be on going, and I will try to keep this list updated to include the most recent additions.

What started as this:

I need to work on my sleeping platform design - this build has been relatively slow to progress but it's coming around nicely now. The sticking point for me is the length inside as I'm not a short guy (6'4") but rickashay has inspired me to go this route (as he is taller? and rocks the sleeping platform).

I've got some pictures of the switches and my deck - along with where the rock light panel is located (in the glove box) - I'll toss them up soon.

Glad to see you over here David! I never get tired of seeing the Black Beast..... sooooo NICE!

Seems like a bunch of tall 3rd gen owners. I'm 6'6" also, and pushing the front seats forward at night is definitely the key to maximize sleeping space. I'm stoked to see what you come up with!

I really need to copy your rear shock setup...... 10" shocks, mmmmmm.

I love that Shrockworks front bumper. The design is exceptional. Great work! Your truck will be unstoppable with ARBs.

Thanks - I'm a big fan of the Shrockworks front bumpers - I hit a rock wall doing 80kph in my Tacoma, connecting the driver side wing first, the Shrockworks took the hit and kept on truckin! Seriously, a friend in town picked it up, tweaked it back the 1-2" it was out and tossed it on his Tacoma!

EDIT - here's what hitting the rock wall did to my Tacoma!

There was no other choice for my 3rd Gen! Only change I would make is to adjust the forward lean on the headlight protection - minor but I'd have it stick out more like the OutDoor Logic.

Pics added of interior mods!

Awesome looking Runner! I am about to take the leap and do a projector retrofit. Any feedback on how they perform off-road and how you secured the projector to the housing? Wondering specifically if you can notice the lights vibrating. You are the first retrofit I have seen on Expo.

The lights are fantastic - I didn't do them myself but had rickashay complete them after I provided the parts. He did a great job and they are more secure than the HID PNP kit I had prevously installed. I can cruise on washboard and the headlights only move with the body. Next up is a set for my Tundra, I love them that much.

When it's dark for 16 hours of the day up in Alberta (or less as you go further North) having good lights is a necessity.

I've updated some pictures - still need to get home and enjoy the newly added supercharger and URD 7th injector kit (along with valve body shims to prolong the life of the A430).

The sleeping platform is complete, the slide out drawers work fantastic - I picked up the handles from Lee Valley (the largest chest handles they have) and added rare earth magnets to the back of the drawers so they stay closed. Quite pleased with the results - they don't open on inclines (when I open the rear hatch) and provide a firm feel when pulling them open. The dog doesn't mind her own personal ramp either...

I'll make sure to grab more detailed pictures of my lighting set up (HID Projector Retrofit - 32" Morimoto LED Bar) along with the supercharger and engine bay when I get home from this most recent stint at work.

Here's a couple shots of my rig in action:

I have a question for your regarding your rear shocks mounts:

When you run your winter setup on stock rims, do your tires get close to the upper shock mounts when flexing? I am looking to do something different with my rear shock mounts to accept a wider range of rear shocks, but worry that outboarding them to the side of the frame would result in my tires hitting them under flex. I run stock 16 hole steel rims and 265/75/16's.

Thanks

Mike

I'll let you know in a couple weeks! I run wheel spacers so hopefully they will clear... Only one way to find out!

The rock wall you hit wouldn't happen to be outside of Golden, would it?

The one which totaled the Tacoma? Right by the town of Frank - I almost added 2 to the list of individuals that Frank Slide claimed! Scary **** that one... Black ice is no fun.
