After having 31's installed on my WJ...the tires are rubbing big time (wheel wells & fenders) After some much needed hammering out & cutting to make room, is there anything out there like some kind of fender flare that I can install to hide the cutting done to the fenders?

You might have wanted to check for the availability of fender flares BEFORE you began cutting, hacking and hammering your rig.

i just looked on google for about 5mins and i really couldn't find anything...bushwacker, etc...nada...:(


these guys http://www.icelandoffroad.com/ seem to make something for the zj, but not the wj....mebbe you could adapt them.

Love your WJ! Meant to compliment it in your other thread.

What about ditching the black wheels and reinstalling the OEM's to bring the wheels back under a bit? More backspacing may eliminate the problems your experiencing.

I hear ya Kodiak! I'm still looking around for anything I can use before any surgery is done! LOL!!!

...and John....if I haven't already sold the OEM's! :oops:

I suppose this is the kind of thing that makes these build ups fun! Will post more when more is done or fixed! LOL!!!

Looks like fender "surgery" is happening tonight! :Mechanic:
Hopefully it'll be a smooth process. I've added a couple more goodies to my Jeep too...I should be posting new pics tomorrow.

Now the only thing I really want to add to it is a lot of dirt!

Still looking father..I promise! LOL!!! There WILL be something to cover up the scars that WILL be visually appealing!

Right now this rubbing is driving me nuts. In order to avoid the rubbing, I have to make my turning radius considerably much larger than it was when I had my full size Dodge Ram quad cab!

These guys are importing flares from Iceland... Edit: I read wrong - their site name has Iceland in it, but the flares are American made.

Even installing flares he'll still have trouble. Hes rubbing on the front bumperette section. Kind of hard to describe. We'll get it squared away. I'll make sure it doesnt look too bad.

I have a 1999 WJ with 31's on it. The trimming you need to do is mostly on the front fascia where it is hit on the front of the front tires when turning. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/tjbliley/Jeep%20Stuff/e4766a33.jpg

Sorry about the size but it allows you to see the trimming done on the fascia along the front of the tire. you also have to redo the inner fender wells to make some room.

You would have to trim the bumper facia or ahve an aftermarket bumper to eliminate the rub o nthe front of the tires. that would however allow you the flex room to tuck.

Hmmm....interesting! May have to check this place out...

We've managed to get the fender squared away (well...about 90% of it!) I still have to ramp it to see what happens when the tires compress up into the wheel well & see what kind of clearance I have....but for now it's a major improvement over what it was just yesterday!

We also began work on installing the wiring for my off road lights...but you know what happens when you lose your sunlight...

...and when you introduce :beer: into any wrenching project!

Those flares from Rusty wont help, he's rubbing in the inside well now. Vast improvement over before. He no longer rubs upfront.
