I've been a member on this site for a while now, and I finally have the beginnings of an expo-worthy vehicle. When I lived in WA I got a taste of all the national forest and wilderness we had available to us. I have a build thread over on cherokeeforum but this thread will be more about the camping side of the rig. Here she is.

Bedlined for protection and to cover up the cut and fold fenders and rear quarters.
103590

Built a swing out spare tire carrier and to get my spare off the roof. Also have plans to build a box for my stove and kitchenware on the other side to keep the rattling and setup to a minimum.

I've always hated dealing with wet tents and sleeping bags so I'm building this up so I can easily sleep inside. I did a storage/sleep platform on my last SUV and hated the reduced headroom so I just went with a simple extension.

Got the foam from overstock.com. It's 4" thick and 73" long. Perfect for my wife and I.

Hopefully now I can get out and use it!

Very cool man..... I love the cherokee, grand and classic! Your rig has a cool start, I really like the JK wheels too :)

Thanks. With their narrow width they didn't hurt the mpg too much and they handle pretty good since the sidewall isn't too tall.

Couldn't agree more. Infinite amount of aftermarket too.

Who made your bumpers? Rig looks great. The sleeping arrangement is a great idea.

Thanks guys. Bumpers and roof rack were made by jay-fab-offroad in MI. I made the tire carrier and sliders.

That is a nice jeep. I was wondering how much room you have from the back of the front seats to the rear hatch. I assume you cant close that if you are laying down.

I like how you moved the license plate to one side. Is it still illuminated "enough" or did you have to move or add a license plate light?

How is rear visibility, and were you thinking about that when you chose a side for the tire mount?

I'm going to be building something similar in the next few months...

Hmmm, is that a JCR slimline roof rack I see there in the first pics? If so, you wanting to sell that? *eyes greedily*

Nice XJ! I've slept in mine several times, but yours looks way more comfy.
