Definitely your better half!
Nicely done. I like the soft lighting, angle of the shot and shallow DOF. It doesn't hurt to have such a nice looking model either.
BTW, I don't believe she is really your wife. I think you found these images on the internet and are feeding us a big line of BS. :xxrotflma:jump:

Took a quick hike with my eldest daughter this past Sunday in Torrey Pines State Park. The theme for the hike was "pay attention". I gave her a camera and followed about 10 steps behind and found my own details to capture.

Thanks Joash. The first two are HDR so they are a little intense. Here's a single shot out of the camera of the first one. This is one of my favorites.

AMAZING Brad. We've visited San Xavier at least 3 times and we've yet to see it without the scaffolding around one of the towers as it seems it's always in a constant state of repair.
I'd love to get shots like yours!!

I went down there for a photography workshop with a local photog. The workshop began at 9:00 AM but I went early around 6:00 AM to catch the early light. It was worth getting up early.
The rest of the images can be seen here if your interested. Lots of amazing inside art work that has been partially restored.

A pic I shot of my H2 after coming out of a nasty ice storm most of the way across Wyoming. Every part of the truck was covered in inches of ice, it was such a relief to break out of the storm and into the sun.

Funny, I say the same thing about people who live in the south-west.:) Now if you want to make your way up here, I can set you up with a bed, but I may need you to give me a hand shoveling. A couple from the last few days of boating around Cedar Key
These things are very ugly, yet very pretty in a wierd sort of way. Plus, they're so curious and used to humans, they make easy subjects
http://everymilesamemory.smugmug.com/Cedar-Key-Florida/Birds-of-Cedar-Key/Big-Pelican-floating-in-the/1134496161_NVNMf-L.jpg
Relatives of the Brown Pelicans, the White Pelicans are twice the size and much more shy. They're hard to get close to and this was shot with a Canon 30D with a 400 f/2.8 with a 1.4x extender on the lens giving me a 560mm equivalent. Plus, they were on a tiny little sand bar and we were on a moving boat bobbing in the breeze.

With all the new tools available to photographers, things like Adobe's new lens distortion correction feature for instance, I felt it was time to go back over a few shots from my past and make right some of those nagging little problems.
Here are some I've never shown, and some you may have seen.

Thanks Brad. The choice to go really bright with the skies was actually a creative decision and was something I was going for. I could have brought the skies down, and in the past I had tried, but it was not the right choice now that I look back. The darker skies made the images heavy and confused, they lacked balance. So this time I went bright, almost to the edge of blowing out the highlights in effort to create and give each image a little more breathing room by adding some non distracting negative space. Doing so seemed to strengthen the compositions and brought emphasis down onto the main subjects. Effective use of negative space can also be used to bring out emotions and feelings so it didn't seem unfitting to go ultra bright seen as we were high in the Andes walking in and out of these heavenly clouds that were all around us.

Just remember that the eye goes to the lightest area of a photograph. And can tend to stay there.
I strongly believe in "negative" space in a print, but the "negative" space needs to have balance in itself, as well as in the whole image.
I like the sky in the seventh image.

My intention, at least with the process, was to push the nonlinear perspective of these a bit to create some depth. By brightening up the sky/clouds/fog, it brought the darker elements forward, which I felt was a good thing as they are the focus. Another thing was that even with the clouds toned down they were still the brightest part of the picture by a fair margin, and one problem I was having with them in their toned down state was their form and texture seemed to crowd the space and was confusing a number of the scenes by imparting a mis-matched perspective of their own. Basically they were working in contrast to my intents.
Now, in all honesty I wish I could just go back to when I shot these because I've learned quite a bit since then, but I won't be going back any time soon so I'm making due with what I have. That said, I still like them for memory sake, and it has been a bit of a battle to figure out what works best with these shots, thankfully I think I'm finally content.
I really appreciate all the comments, it's refreshing when talk about the decision process that goes into making our pictures.

Fax, is this the same contest as the Adventure theme contest here on ExPo? Either way, I think it is VERY cool that you are giving away these backlit boxes, but I do note that your contest rules state the images will be posted on your website, but your entry info says they will be posted on Facebook. The user rights to images on Facebook are pretty much non-existent. Just an FYI.

They are two separate competitions. We are giving away an 8x10 here for the winner, and an 11x17 on our site.
We tried to get the images on our website to have them voted on, but we could not get the photocontest wordpress plugin to work in our site. I just forgot to go back into the contest rules to change that spot. We will either watermark all of the images ourselves or the original posters can mark them themselves. Hope that helps.

I first got into underwater photography through diving. 90% of the time, I free dove with the camera so the bubbles wouldn't scare the fish. Once I got my rebreather certification it was unbelievable. From there, I moved into freelance work for a few surf magazines.
The housing I use now is much simpler than the dive housings I had. I'm not diving as much these days but I can still free dive with my current housing.

It fits my 5D and I have ports to use either a 16-35/2.8 or a 70-200/2.8 IS. The flash attachment fits a 550EX. It's been through some pretty heavy surf and scary moments without failing. So far, I've been really good about not letting it hit me in the head. :Wow1:

I love snorkeling, but the wife hates anything that's confining, which is why we've never got into diving.
99% of what I'd shoot would be with a mask and snorkel, so a rig like that would work perfect for me.
I've checked out SPL's stuff as a friend of mine used to rent a building right beside their office in San Diego
Someday I'll have a rig like that and I'll come calling for some lessons

I sure wish every photographer in this thread would enter our photo competition, these are absolutely amazing shots of some even better places.
We do not keep any rights to any images, the photographer maintains all rights. Watermarks and copyrights on images are great (encouraged). The only cost is a couple minutes on our site, and the prize is an 11x17" backlit box.
Backlitbox.com Photo Competition (http://www.backlitbox.com/?page_id=63)
We just want people aware of our product since it is so new and there isn't anything out there that compares to what we do. You will be amazed at the color clarity and detail in these boxes. We spared no expense in the image quality. The image is HALF of our cost in producing the light boxes, more than all the LEDs, including the box and the power supply.
Please enter, and enter more than one image if you wish (directions on multiple entries here (http://www.backlitbox.com/?page_id=115)).
Thanks,
Fax
PS Keep these crazy images coming! 117 pages is not enough!

A cowboy in South Dakota. Saw him driving a herd down the side of the road, 2 days into a 4 day drive. He was sleeping alongside the herd at night. However thought I thought I was went out the window when I met him!

In the process of scouting spots for upcoming Birding Tours we've been working on, I've been on a boat every morning for the past few weeks before sunrise.
Being up that early has some benefits wen it comes to the beauty it offers
http://everymilesamemory.smugmug.com/Cedar-Key-Florida/Gulf-Coast-Life/Sunrise-Over-Cedar-Key-Photo/1232675124_yFcuQ-L.jpg
You can see more colors than you thought possible during sunrise

How did you do the photos?
Just walk through the the deep dark woods with a head lamp and look for Zombies.
It's really easy to do as long as you have a tripod and can control your exposure. I first light the subject with a brighter flashlight and use live view to get properly focused with the lens in manual focus so it stays there. The I set the exposure to between 20-30 seconds. I have the person stay frozen still for the first 8-10 seconds while I light paint them with an LED headlamp then they quickly walk or roll out of the frame. Continue light painting the background with the headlamp until the rest of the exposure completes. That gives you the transparent ghost image.
The longer the person stays in the shot the less transparent they are in the final image.
Sometimes it takes a few tries to get the light balance correct either with less light painting or higher ISO but after a few tries it usually comes together pretty well.
That, or just walk around and look for Zombies, both approaches work.

A friend of ours brought the wife and me over to Jacksonville Beach for my wife's birthday. Since they're doing the lady thing and kicking back in the spa, I spent the day at the Bird Rookery at the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine. I love the footprints. Reminds me of the outer banks.
A couple from the Assisi Basilica. Of the hundreds I took, I think these had the best composition. Too many of the pics were just of the sunset. I liked that these also had the grounds and buildings in the photo. These were also some of my first experimentation with HDR.

Multiple exposure/stacking?
Yeah, evidenced by the translucent people. It was the only way I could figure getting the sky and the church properly exposed.

Awesome, I was there for 2 days with a hired driver...My main objective was to see as many temples as possible, what really suprised me was how populated the island was and the traffic. I think I will go back in a year or two and spend at least two weeks there so I can see more and spend more time in the Ubud area..

Try and head up to the palace on the lake (can't remember the name but it's up past Ubud from memory) also the north coast of Lovina and the old capital Sangara are interesting as well as the area around Candi Dada. Went out the western end many years ago and it's another world as well. Love Bali and can't wait for the kids to get old enough to
Head back
