View Full Version : Brad Christ's Kodiak w/ Lance camper
09-25-2007, 10:50 AM
In 2006, Brad Christ bought a Chevy Kodiak 4x4, fitted a big Lance camper to the flatbed, and added a winch, air compressor and other recovery gear. After just a month of preparation, Brad and his fiancee rolled out of his driveway in Maryland and drove to Ushuaia!
One year and 32,000 miles later, the couple has returned safely. Read more about Brad's overland adventure here

Thanks for posting this...the Truck Camper magazine interview was a very interesting read. And he put that rig together in a month and they took off...amazing! Also interesting that after approx a year of travel, they are both ready to get back to "regular" life and home (although he has major plans for travelling again sometime in the future). I think the desire to "be home again" is an overlooked aspect of extended expedition travel. I used to go on the road for 18 months at a time (work related/here in the USA). The irony is that when you're at home for an extended time, you wanna hit the road...and when you've been on the road for an extended time, the desire to stay in one place (home?) grows stronger.
Seems like his asking price of $85K/OBO isn't unreasonable. I'm sure it has many good miles left in it.

I agree. A fair value for a 2 model year old diesel Kodiak with 32,000 miles is about $45,000. You might be able to buy the Lance camper for about $20,000, although this camper has been used for 300+ nights!
That leaves $20,000 for the extras like 16K winch, heavy duty bumper, air suspension seats, air compressor, Onan propane generator and so on.
