Hi everyone. I found this site from a link on NAXJA. My wife and I own a 2000 Cherokee Classic, which we have had for almost 2 years. Last Dec. I had collected enough parts to do our lift. It's a hybrid lift using OME rear springs, Rusty coils with spacers, JKS lower arms and disco's, Bilstien shocks, a PROC SYE and stock front drive shaft for the rear, all riding on Dueler REVO's in a 245/75-16 (31x9.5) size tire. I also swapped the Dana 35 for a brand new (left over stock) 8.25 with factory LSD and 4.10's. Removed the ABS stuff, since the 8.25 doesn't have the ability to use it. So far we are very happy with the results and are looking forward to more mods.

I have always liked Expedition style exploring and with more and more of this becoming more "mainstream", it is making it easier to find info. This site is great and just what I have been looking for. Lots of great info. I am looking forward to building our rig for more adventures and am planning to build my own adventure trailer to go along with the XJ. I have been getting a lot of good ideas from that forum.

Well, that's it for now. Here is a pic from the first trip out after the lift back in Jan. Look forward to getting to know more people here and hope to see some of you on the trails. Happy exploring.

Mike,

Great vehicle. The XJ is a true classic and excellent for overland builds. They can also get pretty decent mileage if I remember correctly.

Great to have you here!

"gawd...another new guy, wtf are you doing here?! stop asking us, and go figure it out yourself!

Go drink bleach, cuz you are NOT extreme enough!

hehe...this is just a public service anouncement of what you will NOT
find here. if you want to be browbeaten and kicked in the head go right over to
pirate4x4.com...we've got a lot of expatriots over here including myself.

i got tired of getting smacked around, with my
"boring" builds and love of all things outdoors.

you, your wife, your XJ, your future (or present)
children, your dogs, and your extended family are most welcome....

First, thanks for all the warm welcomes!

As for your question kcowyo, yep those are stock on 2000-2001 Classics. They are 16x7 so it does make tire selection a little harder. Most 16" tires are rate D which are a little stiff for a Cherokee, IMHO.

Agreed. I'm sporting E's on the same wheel. I'm used to it now, but they seemed very harsh initially. I really like the tire sizes that are available for 16" wheels, however. They're typically somewhat narrower than their 15" counterparts.

You have a great Jeep! A man after my own heart. :)

Nice XJ Mike! Welcome to the Expediton Portal!

I am actually thinking of going back to 16" rims so I can get the same height tire but not as wide.

Thanks for the welcome. I read your build up and love how your XJ has come out. I drool for an ARB up front but have a hard time justifying the price. I am most likely going to fab my own bumper using the ARB as a base idea. Just need to get some time.

Ditto, i'm sick of 12.5's throwing mud/dirt all over the side of my rig. 15 minutes unloading and setting up camp and i'm filthy from the waist down.

Wecome, to the Expo! The hardest part of logging on to the Expo is controlling the ugre to drop everything and go to all the great places the members here post. It makes working for a living seem like an unimportant distraction. At least until the lack of money becomes a problem.

Thanks again for all the welcomes. I think NAXJA is a great resource for any XJ owner and it really saved a lot of time, heartache and money researching the right way to do things but at the same time, a fair number of the people are more rock crawlers or even more hard core.

I think there is a growing group of people who are finding expedition type offroading a lot more fun and more family oriented. I was happy to see the Adventure forum added but not much activity, especially since the server crash.

I am totally jonesin' to build an adventure trailer and have been getting tons of ideas from the trailer forum. Hopefully I'll get some plans done and post them up. :jumping:

Yeah, we lost quite a bit of content considering it was fairly new, i'm sure it will pick up soon though.

Thanks for the welcome. I (the wife) finally decided to hop on here myself and see what's up. We really enjoyed the meet and greet and run to canyon creek. No kids for us, but I appreciate that the future dog is welcome. <grin> I love kids, but I want a dog.
