Some of you guys are mountain bikers. You probably already heard, there is much talk of closing the Continental Divide Trail to mountain bikes. That would suck. That is one of the crown jewels of extended mountain bike touring rides.

Woh! I hadn't heard about this until just now. Thanks for updating us as this is obviously a huge land rights issue that will definitely have enormous opposition.

It's really a bureaucratic problem. Rides like the Monarch Crest follows sections of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. This is covered by the same legislation that created the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail, which don't allow bikes at all. So someone noticed this and is trying to revise the rules. Send in your comments!
