View Full Version : Cheap and easy socket extension upgrade

Next time you're in the parts store pick up a package of shock absorber bushings. Then press them on all your 1/4" drive extensions, on the ratchet end. That way you have something to grab a hold of when you are spinning a loose nut.

I know that some newer ratchets come with a little knurled disk that you can spin with your fingertips, and you can actually buy little disks to put on ratchets, but the rubber bushing on the extension works better, IMHO. One reason is that I often use the socket and extension with out the ratchet (like when I'm trying to get a bolt started in a tight spot), and the bushing makes a nice little handle on the extension.

I (and my father before me) have been doing this for years, and have yet to experience an instance where the bushing was a hinderance.
