My 2002 4-Runner has a vehicle skid control system. Does anyone know how to install a switch to disable the system? There are times in mud and snow that it's a real PIA if the differential is not locked. I don't like to keep the differential locked when I am on hard surfaces.

Are you talking about a center differential? I thought the point of the VSC was for snow so you didn't end up in a ditch.

The 4Runner has
VSC = Vehicle Stability Control (corrects wild understeer or oversteer)
TRAC = Traction control (brakes and throttle)
ATRAC = Automatic Traction Control (brakes only, in 4WD, more agressive in 4Wlo))
and a Torsen Locking Center Differential (manually engaged turns off VSC)
On current model 4Runners the only (poor) way to disable VSC is to unplug a connector at the reservoir for the brake fluid. This also disables ABS!

This is in an FJ Cruiser but it is the same as the 4Runner
2008 4Runners will have a button to manually disengage VSC but no word on retrofitting to ours.

Prob. a little late, but I installed a switch to disable the VSC/TRAC following this write-up.
